Anyone give their baby a bath everyday?

I've read and been told by medical professionals to bathe DD every 2-3 days. We've been giving her a bath every other day but her hair gets greasy by the next afternoon. Would it be okay to give her a bath every night? Or should I just wash her hair every night? Or just stop being so vain about it?

Re: Anyone give their baby a bath everyday?

  • My son has eczema and really sensitive skin.  We bathe him *maybe* 2x's a week!   But he's never had issues with oily hair.

Maybe try a waterless shampoo or putting baby powder in her hair to soak up the oils.

  • when we started a regular bedtime routine it included bath time nightly. I'm pretty sure that was around 3-4 months. Addie did have sensitive skin but the baths were ok, we just had to be careful what soap we used. if it isn't bothering her I wouldn't worry about it.

  • We do.  We did it in the beginning to start a routine for the night...and it really stuck.  He knows about 7:45 that it's bath time and as soon as that is over he gets to eat.  Some nights we skip, but for the most part he gets a bath.
  • No, I'm in the 2-3 days camp. His hair doesn't really seem greasy though.

  • G is a fan of rubbing his dinner in his hair, so he gets a bath every night. We skip it if we're busy, but he generally gets one every night. We started doing that probably around 4 months I'd say? If you bathe her every night and it's not bothering her skin, I don't see a problem.

  • We do.  We skip it maybe once a month when we're really busy, but it's part of our daily bedtime routine

  • We did bathe everyday when he was little - just to create a routine.  We only soaped him up every other day, though.

Now, we soap up every night b/c he usually gets bug spray and/or sunscreen put on him at DC, so I want to make sure to wash that off.  (I sometimes skip washing his hair every night, though, if it still looks decent.  I guess that doesn't help your case, any, though).

    This exactly.

  • A usually gets a bath in the tub with soap 3 days/week. There have been weeks where he may get an extra bath based on what we did that day (going to the pool or something). I give him a sponge bath with just water on the non tub days and wash his hands and feet with soap (since they are always in his mouth :)) so we still have an evening routine. If you prefer to bathe her daily and she hasn't had any sensitivity then I don't see a problem. Or maybe you could use less soap or only water on her body some days but wash her hair if that is where you notice a need.

  • Georgia gets a nightly bath. We started the routine when it calmed her colic - she is completely content and relaxed. Our pedi said to watch for dry skin and to moisturize daily to avoid the situation!

  • Yep, C gets a bath every night and has pretty much from the start, followed by his lotion rub-down.  I mean, if I sat around in tinkle and poo all the time, I'd want a bath!

This.  Occasionally on Fridays he gets a reprieve.

  • M started getting a bath nightly as soon as he could sit up and, therefore, take a bath with T. Even though he gets in the bath every night, he doesn't get washed every night and his hair only gets washed if he has rubbed food in it, which is about 2x a week. T's hair and body get thoroughly scrubbed down daily and Mathis will certainly start to get that treatment when we spend more time at the park... For now it's just not necessary and both boys have eczema so fewer products the better

  • I gave both my kids baths every night from the day the came home from the hospital.  They haven't skipped a night since.  I am a clean freak.

  • she has gotten one 99.9% of the time since she was 8 weeks old.  Sometimes it's just water, sometimes it's soap, and she gets her hair washed a couple times a week.
  • Since Kaley has such severe eczema she only gets a bath every few days or when absolutely needed. Carter is showing the same signs of eczema, though not as severe, so I follow the same pattern with them both.

  • We do bath every night, soap every other night. Like many others, it's part of the bedtime routine. He doesn't have sensitive skin though.

  • Tyler gets a bath every night.  Like pp, we started it as a routine when he was around 2.5 months old and it just stuck.  T's hair got super greasy when he was little and it drove me nuts so I would always wash it....still do even though it doesn't get that greasy anymore.  He gets sweaty at school now so it's a must but when he was little I could have probably done every other day.  I liked to wash his day off though.

  • Both my kids have severe eczema but are bathed every night.  For DD, sometimes it is just water.  DS is soaped up every night.  It is part of their bedtime routine.

  • Mine get bathed every night 99% of the time.  We skip bathtime maybe once a month.

  • DD had very sensitive skin, but I still bathed her everynight.  She was in daycare at 6 weeks old she would come home smelling like the daycare so into the bath she went!  I just used really gentle soap and lotion after.  She was bald until she was about 3 years old though, so I didn't have the greasy hair issue! • Thanks ladies! I gave her a bath tonight even though I gave her one last night too. I will keep an eye on her skin (DH has eczema so I need to be cautious) and didn't lather her up tonight so yay for no greasy hair tomorrow!
  • We started to around 4 months as a bedtime routine, but were only using soap/shampoo every other night. We usually soap every night now because DD likes to get into everything.

I do the same - I can't imagine myself not taking daily showers and I'm not sitting in a diaper all day.  Both boys are just so much more relaxed, calm and ready for bed afterward.

  • Just to be clear, though we only gave her a bath every other day, she got her bum washed daily since she poops so much so I feel you all with the wanting to be clean if I sat in a diaper. There is always 1-2 dirty diapers that call for taking her to the sink and rinsing her off. Aren't you jealous?

I agree.  And to that end, I also give C a full washcloth wipe-down every morning to start the day.

  • yep... we did it early to set up a routine but I"m not sure if it was more for us or for him. Now, it's a rare night if we don't give him a bath.
