Has anyone seen this/cupcakes

A friend of mine is due in 9 weeks and is having her baby shower on September 12th. It is being planned by her sisters. She opted not to find out the sex of the baby and therefore all items they have purchased or are on their registry are gender neutral.

I volunteered to do the cake or cupcakes. Her sister said the colours would be mint green, brown and yellow. EASY!

However, I got an e-mail from her today saying the colours had to be changed since they were having a hard time finding decorations in these colours. The colours will now be pink and blue.

Has anyone seen this for a gender neutral shower?

What kind of cake/cupcakes are suitable for this. I feel like mixing the colours will make it look like she is expecting twins.

I find it odd they were having trouble finding decor in green, brown, and/or yellow. I see your point on the blue and pink. Could you add in some green and/or yellow to mix?

could you do like a blue cupcake/cake with pink decorations on them (polka-dots, baby bottles, rattles)? I have also seen pink and blue cupcakes with a question mark on them. Otherwise could you just do white frosting?

I love the idea of pink and blue cupcakes with a question mark on the frosting! You could do pink cupcakes with white frosting and a blue question mark and then blue ones with white frosting and a pink question mark.

I would do white cake and dye half blue and half pink; then I would ice all the cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and just decorate the pink ones with pink decorations and the blue ones with blue decorations.

Or you could do chocolate cupcakes with pink icing and vanilla cupcakes with blue icing (or vice versa).

I think I would make vanilla cupcakes and then put them in blue wrappers and ice them pink. I'm not sure I'd want to eat a blue or pink cupcake personally. I think blue wrappers and pink icing could be cute though!

Yes, this color scheme is very common for a gender neutral baby shower. I would either frost all in white with blue and pink polka-dots, stripes, sugar, etc or I would do half in blue and half in pink. No one will think she is having twins unless she told them she is.

For my SIL's first shower, she didn't find out the sex either. For the tableclothes, they had some tables w/ pink and the others w/ blue coverings. I think it looked very cute. I would assume the cake / cupcakes would be the same. I don't think it would look like she's having twins.
