Hi all!
I found some wool yarn on clearance at Michaels and want to try my hand at crocheting some longies/shorties for my cousin!
This is the yarn:
Question #1:
What would be a good yarn to compliment this khaki color? It can be for any gender.
Question #2:
For blends, what percentage should I stay above for wool/acrylic? Hobby Lobby carries some really cute colors but the percentages vary from 56% and above.
Question #3:
What would be the best hook (US) to use for these? I'm not following a pattern just going to play around a bit!
Question #4:
What's a good place to buy wool yarn in cool colors? Preferably with great prices!
TIA and sorry if this has been asked recently!
Re: Crocheting Longies/Shorties ?s
1) I like any muted color. As long as it's not bright I think it'd work.
2) You don't want a blend with acrylic. Another animal hair is best since acrylic will wick moisture (i.e. feel wet) since it doesn't have the same properties. I guess some say 90% wool in the case of blends, but the best is to avoid it IMO.
3) I believe patons recommends an H hook. Check the gauge thing on the label. The pattern I made up uses a G and an H.
Oh! Thanks!
So would mohair be good then?
Do you use the G hook for ribbing?
Yes (although it can be itchy) and yes!
1. Anything really. Darker brown, hunter green, light or dark blue, pale pink, orange, deep purple, black, etc.
2. I'd go with at least 70% wool, but I don't know why I came up with that #.
3. I'd find a pattern and work from there. I can't free-form crocheting, and I'd want to make sure the measurements for rise, leg openings, etc. were OK.
4. No idea.
