Question for baby food makers

I started G on meats and, well, he hates it.  I've only done turkey and he gags and spits it out.  Even if I sneak it in veggies and fruits he can tell.  Maybe he just hates turkey but my question before I make anything else is---is there something that you've done to make it taste better for them?  I use wholesome baby food as a reference, but I'm wondering if any of you have your own meat making remedies to share.  TIA!

  • we held off on meat until about 9 months when she was able to eat small pieces of shredded chicken breast.

  • I also waited until he could have it in a more normal form...small pieces of meat, as opposed to purees.

  • We've done turkey, and now chicken, and C loves it.  I initially tried giving him a taste of straight turkey, and he wasn't having that - not that I blame him!  I now mix it half and half with either pears or apples, and he thinks it's great.  We may try mixing it with sweet potatoes soon as well.

  • We haven't tried meats.  Honestly it is because the idea of running chicken thru a food processor grosses me out.  I'd rather wait longer and just give him chunks or shredded meats.
  • I made one batch of chicken and mixed it with sweet potatoes and apples because I just thought it looked and seemed so bad on its own.  After that I just grilled the chicken and cut it in very small pieces for him to fingerfood.  I doubt I'll do a meat puree for Evan this time around - I figure if it doesn't look appealing to me I'm not going to make him eat it.
