We started rice cereal, and DD didn't really like it. Next was pears, then avocado, then sweet potato, and now bananas (which my mother told me she refused this morning - LOL - guess we'll revisit that one later). What order did you introduce foods? I think we might do squash next then maybe apples? I read something in "Top 100 Baby Purees" that said something about not giving them too many foods with lots of fiber b/c it can get rid of nutrition in their bodies?? Pears apparently has a lot of fiber, and I've been giving her that most days since she tried it b/c I'm trying to do 2 meals a day now, and she likes that one fairly well. I've been making DD's food, so I need to figure out what to buy today...
Re: Introducing solids: what order?
Our pedi recommended starting with rice cereal for about 3 wks to a month. You have to give LO a chance to get used to the texture of something new and a whole different method of eating than they're used too. Then introducing green vegetables. Do the same veggie three days in a row to make sure there aren't any allergies. Then on to the next green veggie. When you're done with green veggies, move onto a different color of veggie using the same three day span. He said to make sure sweet potatos are the last veggie. Then move onto fruits.
The problem with starting with fruits and sweet potatos is that they are naturally sweet. They'll develop a taste for that and not want to try the veggies.
With my DD we started with veggies first, then fruits per our pedi. The fruits are sweeter so the theory is if you introduce the veggies first they're more likely to try them and eat them because they don't know any different!
we did orange colored veggies first--sweet potato, squash, carrots, then mashed potato and then corn
Next is green veggies--green beans, peas, spinach
Then fruits last.
We did have DS on rice cereal then oatmeal for about a month before introducing the veggies
