brace yourselves, i'm going to sound like spoiled child...
MH and I haven't been back to Hawaii since we got married. I REALLY wanted to go last year, but we agreed last year we would go this year instead. I dragged my feet and never booked anything, i can't figure out why. If we go, we need to go in August. But, we've already agreed we're not going to go - we're going to save the money and travel time, and do a staycation at home (in our new house!) instead. I was completely fine with this when we discussed this the other week.
But today, I started remembering how i wanted to go back to Hawaii to get more photos taken, since while I like our wedding photos, I still have photo envy. and really, this started b/c i looked at cai's pro teasers she posted on TN 
and I always wanted to go to hawaii when I was pregnant and do maternity shots there, on the beach, against a backdrop of palm trees and ocean, etc. the super dramatic-light shots we didn't get from our wedding. I thought it'd be a great way to celebrate taking this next step in our lives together.
so now i'm really sad we're not going to Hawaii. 
If i told MH I really wanted to go, and found a good enough deal on plane tickets, I'm sure he'd do it, but i know he'd prefer to stay home. and rationally, i think we should stay home too. but i just keep thinking, we'll never have this opportunity again! ever!
ugh. okay, time to wrap up this pity party...

I totally know what you mean! I SO want to go back for a vacation and have some beautiful pro pics taken of our little family... but it's out of the question!
Maybe you can enjoy your staycation and then go back when the LO is one and have some family pictures taken? Or what about when you are on maternity leave? We did that and I SO wish we would've had pics taken... we didn't but it was still amazing to go there with my new little family!
I agree with the pp. While I would love to go to Hawaii anytime for any reason, maybe now isn't the best for you & DH. As for maternity pics, I completely understand wanting them with Hawaii as your backdrop. I have total photo envy as well (it was really overcast on our wedding day so no amazing sunset for us
but I hope to go back as a family & get some of those missed shots!) We took maternity photos last weekend & while the photographer has only sent us a few teasers, I feel like I look like a Mack truck driver in some of them (no offense to any mack truck drivers...it is just not the look I was going for) & I really don't understand why I look so large (I mean other than being 8 months pg!) But I just don't feel *that* big & I do think the photographer did a great job, I just think that I really don't see myself the way I actually am so when I saw these pics, it was kind of a shock. And I knew going in that I probably wouldn't hang any of the the maternity pics up on the wall, but definitely none of the teasers that show my face (to me...my face looks so swollen)! Anywho...point of story is if you really just want to go to Hawaii to take these pics maybe it won't be worth the money and maybe waiting until your LO arrives would be a better time to take family pics instead of maternity ones.
I am not sure where you live...do you live near a beach or lake? I am sure with the right photographer, you could get the dramatic & beautiful shots you are looking for at home too.
I want to go to Hawaii too! ...but it just isn't in the cards right now because of (lack of) accrued time off and money.
I think maternity photos would probably be neat, but I would rather have really nice family photos. I think those are more likely to be displayed (maybe that is just me though). So think of what fun you will have when you can take your LO there!

(even if christine is posting about sales to tempt me further!) you're right though, i'm not even completely sold on mat photos - we might do something simple, a few shots by a friend or something, but i don't think they'll be something I'd display prominently. i just want photos in hawaii, hah. but family photos would be better!
i really wanted to go for our 1st anniversary (and do an anniversary shoot). since that didn't happen, we talked about going for a babymoon. now that that's not happening either, i will look forward to a family vacation with the LO some day...
ok so i am a bit late to post...but why don't you just use your miles to go? seems like you have more than enough and it doesn't seem like you need to save them if you are constantly traveling for work and accumulating more. just a thought
if you don't go, i agree that it will be great to go as a family later. and FWIW i think all of us have photo envy whenever we see others' pics... i STILL think about it and we were married almost 5 yrs ago. *sigh* i think it's normal when you're a knottie/nestie.

i did consider this, but you need to book the flights early to not have to spend as many miles. at this point, it's 75k/ticket =P since tickets are less than $350 from seattle, it's not worth it. =(
i think you're right though - i don't think i'll ever stop having photo envy!

This! Me too! After the baby, I just want to display family pics...not so much maternity pics. I think family pics on the beach would be great...although I see the allure of having maternity beach pics...I really wanted underwater maternity pics actually because I thought it would be cool but that didn't work out but it's okay since I wouldn't know if we'd display them anyway =P

I was going to say, just do it! It will be so long before you can do go again! But then I started reading about having family photos on the beach and I agree with these girls!
hehe, thanks ladies. the more i thought about it, the more i realized it's not the *maternity* photos I'm wanting (in fact, i had already decided not to get maternity photos done!) - i just want to go back to Hawaii! ...and have gorgeous photos to capture those memories and this stage in our life. but you're right - have family photos of 3 of us will be even better than just the two of us
