So I've been using digital OPKs since day 8 this month and nothing but that damn empty circle. I had an ultrasound on day 9 and the nurse said to trigger Tues night (tonight) which is day 13 but she thought I was going to O before then. So Sunday I got the same damn empty circle and decided to buy the OPKs that just have the line. The test line was darkish - clearly not positive but I thought I must be getting close. Then yesterday I took a digital - negative and the other kind and the line was lighter than it was on Sunday. I also just feel like I've ovulated. Since I'm taking the Femara I swear I can feel my ovaries - over the weekend they felt so heavy and I was so bloated and I don't feel that way anymore.
So I'm supposed to take the Ovidrel shot tonight and I'm worried that I'm just missed my surge - but some people's protocol's don't even involve OPKs right? Don't some of you just do the trigger shot based on ultrasound?
Re: OPK hell and Ovidrel question
Hey jcath....I wish I had some advice, but I'm one of those that don't even use OPKs anymore. My IUI protocols just call for me to do the trigger shot based on CD12 or CD13 u/s.
Maybe this would warrant a call to the RE's office? And, I know what you mean about feeling your ovaries and being bloated while stimming! GL!
Jcath,
I totally know what you are saying. I started my first month of Clomid and I am aregular ovulator so I pretty much know when I ovulate and I guess the clomid threw it off. I started testing on day 10 with the Digital and tested until day 15 and nothing so they had me come in and the lady who did my u/s stated that my OPK's must be lying to me because she could tell I was getting ready to ovulate so I triggered that night and had TI and then we did our IUI yesterday. So right now not to fond of OPK's becuae they don't seem to work which makes me wonder if they were ever working in the past. I will keep my FX for you.
GL
I would call your RE. It surprises me that if the nurse felt you would ovulate before tonight that she would have you do the trigger tonight. I thought the trigger was to help induce ovulation so if you've ovulated the trigger would be useless.
It seems to me that she would have had you trigger on the day she felt you would ovulate.
Saying that, if you did ovulate, it's all good in the hood you still have a chance this month.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. I think the nurse said I bet you'll ovulate before then as a guess. At my RE's office they only have you trigger if you don't get a +opk - so if I did get a +OPK yesterday I'd be having the IUI today. They base the trigger date on when the follices should be as big as they are comfortable with them getting. So I'm supposed to test again tonight and if its - I will trigger and have 2 IUIs, if + I just have 1 IUI.
I usually use the CBEFM and do get a peak day most months. I've never gotten a smiley face on the damn digital OPK. grrrr
Does your REs office never do u/s on their IUI patients? Are you doing this because of insurance costs? I find it odd that they are watching (literally with an u/s) your ovaries vs. just an opk. During my IUIs I think I usually had IUI on CD13 but on my IVF cycle, it was alot slower. Perhaps your follies are just growing slower than normal?
In any event, good luck with this cycle!
Jcath,
Although I have no experience (yet) with and RE and shots and u/s, etc., I did have a similar problem this cycle with getting a +OPK for 4 days in a row. I was supposed to start my progesterone inserts the day I ovulated. Well, when you keep getting a + every day it makes it a little hard to know what to do. That just wasn't right to me. Whatever, I went ahead and did what felt right and smartest to me but who really knows. I hope you figure it all out, somehow, and turn up pregnant too.
Jcath,
This is my first IUI, so I don't have much prior experience, but here goes. I started using the CBEFM in the past to track my ovulation and had always gotten the ovulation notice. This month with the IUI I had to use an OPK to check for ovulation, then I would do the ovidrel shot.
I ended up using the regular, non digital OPK. When I read the directions to the CBEFM it stated that it could be affected by fertility drugs. I also was taking clomid from CD3 to CD5 and estrogen from CD11 to the day of insemination. For this cycle I also used the CBEFM and it never showed that I ovulated, however, the regular OPK did show ovulation. You might want to consider switching to regular OPK's and not rely so much on the CBEFM while taking the fertility drugs. Hope this make sense and that it helps.
