1st Time in Mat Pants - Are they gonna fall OFF?

I am wearing mat pants for the first time today. I am almost 22 wks, have a small bump and have been getting by on loose sundresses.

OMG they feel like they are going to fall DOWN. I HATE them. I am SO uncomfortable and I just got to work. They have a big band that goes up to my bra. I folded that over to get more support and added a bella band on top - a little better, but I still feel like they're going to fall OFF.

Why does everyone swear by mat pants. I hate this feeling. Am I just not big enough for them yet?

Re: 1st Time in Mat Pants - Are they gonna fall OFF?

  • Sounds like you aren't big enough for them yet. I went through a stage where I couldn't get mine to stay up but regular pants were not an option! It sounds like you've already got the best solution going on.

And believe me, when they fit- they are the most comfy things EVER! :))

  • You may have the wrong size maternity pants or just be a little too tiny for the pants still.  Some of mine felt like that in the very beginning.  I did what you did: add the bella band for extra hold.  I grew into them FAST, though.  I have been wearing maternity pants since week 10!

Fold the stretchy part a little down over the top of the pants.  That makes them more secure too.

  • Thanks, Ladies. Glad it's not just me. So far I have not been growing in a way for the best tricks to work. The Bella Band never helped me cause my hips grew out of my pants too quickly - and now my belly's too small for the full panel - oh well.

These are cute white jeans, so hopefully they'll fit before Labor Day or they'll be a total waste of money for me :)

  • For me, it depends on where I bought them from.  In my experience, Old Navy mat. clothes have been ginormous.  I feel like I won't fit into them until I'm huge, and I have a definite pregnant belly now.  The Kohls clothes I've bought fit great and I want to wear them for the rest of my life.  I don't know why they don't make all pants have stretchy waists.

  • Old Navy has some nice low panel ones on sale.  Also, I just got these and i LOVE them.  A medium panel, and they are denim slacks, which I wear to work all the time (or will, in the fall)

Edit: I got these at motherhood maternity. (destinationmaternity.com)

  • I have been wearing them since 10 wk. I love them, but the first couple weeks they were big. Motherhood Maternity sells a tank top that that has some spandex to it. It was slimming and also kept my pants up. I thought that was more comfortable then a band becuase the band kept falling down.

  • Yes! The band does keep falling down - and creeping up. I will try the spandex tank top too. And maybe just not buy anymore of this kind of pants until I get bigger. My mom got them for me before I was even showing. We made an amateur move :)

    Thanks, Ladies.

  • Over the belly are good for later (3rd trimester), but you're probably just too small right now...........under the belly are by far the most comfortable - even at the end if you can get tanks/bands that are long enough to cover the bottom of your belly :o)

  • I think it definitely depends on the brand you buy too.  Most of mine are just below the belly, but I have a few full panel ones that are pretty comfy too.  Old Navy seems to run really big.  And I honestly hate the pants from Motherhood.  They always seem to stretch out and feel like they are falling down.

  • Sometimes I feel like the couple pairs that I have are going to fall off me because even though my belly is starting to stick out more and more - I still have absolutely no butt! So they need to be bigger to fit the belly, but my shape is just so weird that it's hard to find a good fit.

  • oh my god, girl, i KNOW IT!!! rough, right?

i have some of the cutest cropped, distressed boyfriend jeans from old navy maternity that i tried to start wearing 2 weeks ago and what a joke...i was hiking those things up all day long. i think the mid-panel is key...the full panel makes me feel like a moose and the totally underbelly ones (like the ON jeans i got) feel like they are falling down on me....but, it hink you're on the right track with folding the band down....when i've tried on some pants (i have yet to buy any for work, but soon........) i've done that and it helps them feel more secure. i don't know about that bella band though. i wore it once and it was more annoying than it was helpful...but people swear by them, so i think whatever works for you :)

long time no see, BTW :)
