Natural Birth

My half Hypnobabies/Successful Induction birth story!

Last Monday, I woke up at 6:25am thinking I felt a little wet. I got up and went to the bathroom, but couldn't tell if it was just discharge, pee, mucus, or my water. So I laid back down with a pad and waited about 20 minutes. When I got up, I felt a small gush and thought, holy crap--this is it! I woke up DH by yelling at him from our bathroom, he was nervously excited. With our first, I was induced, so I never got to experience any of this! DH called the IL's to come pick up Josie and I showered and packed the last minute stuff.

Contractions still had not started by 10, so we waited a bit longer and called our doulas. We arrived at the hospital around 11 and was admitted. My doulas and I walked, and walked, and then bounced on the birthing ball, and still nothing. At 2ish, the midwife suggested a small dose of pit to get contractions started, I hesitantly agreed. I was 4cm, 70% effaced when I arrived and thought maybe a small kick in the ute, lol, would help get things moving. I turned on my Hypnobabies and continued rocking on the birthing ball. Around 5, my contractions started coming on hard and strong, with very small breaks in between. I was unable to remain focused on my Hypno at this point, there were just too many distractions (fetal heart monitor didn't want to stay put while I was on the ball, nurses going in and out, etc...) My doulas had me up on the bed on all fours to rock through them, which helped.

At 6:30, I couldn't take it anymore, I started begging everyone in the room for the epi. There was not a second for me to feel bad and think I had failed myself. My doulas just kept reassuring me I was doing okay, the best thing for me. The midwife checked me and I was at a 6. By the time anesthesia came, I was groaning and my body was pushing. I had to breathe and make this crazy primal noises to get through them. They placed the epi, but there was no time to hook it up, baby wanted out! I laid back down and was a 10. I pushed for about 25 minutes, and could feel him move down through my pelvis the whole time. It was absolutely amazing! My husband told me to reach down and feel his head--he had hair. That was it, I felt him and knew I could push him out right then, I was ready to meet my son! At 7:28 pm on July 19, Asher was born! And I was able to get my med free birth!

Recovery the 2nd time, is so much easier! I feel so empowered that I was able to do it, even with the pit. Anyways, here is baby Asher!

8lbs 10 oz and 21 inches.
