Postpartum Depression

Just feeling blue again...

I had some pretty bad issues w/ PPD after my DD was born 4 mos ago... My doc put me on Zoloft and upped the dose last month. I'm EBF so is there anything else that's safe to take? I thought I was out of the woods but this past weekend I started to feel like I'm slipping back... I just feel so hopeless/helpless. Is it possible to "get better" and then just revert back to PPD?

Re: Just feeling blue again...

  • It is possible, once the medication is fully in your system, to start to feel "worse."  I think it's because as the medication gets into your system, it gradually builds up and so you progressively feel better and better.  Once it's fully in your system, however,  it's not increasing anymore, so you've essentially plateaued.  I would talk to your dr. and tell him/her how you're feeling.  Maybe you need to up your dose again.

i'm sorry that you have to go through this - i had it after my daughter was born two years ago, and zoloft is great.

so is writing.  it helped me a lot during my second pregnancy.

i write a fair amount about these feelings - feel free to check out www.thecrazybabymama.com and you can always email me if you are looking for support or someone to share (or even OVERshare) with :)
