3rd Trimester

Parsley?

I was just talking to my mom on facebook about how excited we both are about this baby coming, and she suggested that I try parsley to help get things going. This is totally new to me and not something I had heard of before.

Re: Parsley?

  • Never heard of it, but if you google it you'll get lots of hits.  It sounds like it might be another OWT, but heck, anything is worth a shot, right?  ;)

  • I would not recommend medicinal doses of parsley during pregnancy without the guidance of a licensed herbalist (and only then the woman should be 40+ weeks)  I definitely would not not consider it at 37 weeks. It's an emmenagogue (stimulates menstruation) and uterine stimulant. It can also dry up milk supply which is counter-productive if you're wanting to breastfeed.

  • Someone told me to avoid parsley during the 1st trimester, when I asked why this lady told me they used it years ago for abortions. I was never big using parsley so I didn't pay much attention...

  • That's strange...I have a herb garden and cook with fresh parsley all the time??

Parsley in cooking is fine, it's the medicinal dosage which will have an effect.
