Ok so- my friend Meaghan lives across the street from us. She has a friend named Catherine. As long as I've known Meaghan and Catherine, Meaghan has been married to Sam and Catherine has been dating and living with her boyfriend Seth.
Last week, Catherine shows up on Meaghan and Sam's doorstep and asks can she stay with them for a couple of weeks while she tries to find a place to live. Meaghan and Sam immediately say no problem and set her up in the guest room. She's been living with them for going on 2 weeks now.
Here's the weird part: as soon as I heard that Catherine is staying with them, I say (to Meaghan) "Oh no- what happened?!" and Meaghan said "I don't know, I didn't ask."
WTH?
I told DH I thought that was weird that Catherine didn't tell Meaghan what happened and it's weird that Meaghan didn't ask yet. I would have asked as soon as she was settled in and we had a moment to talk! DH said that's because I'm a nosy person.

The first thing out of my mouth would have been "what happened?". Not because I'm nosy (well, I am, but thats not why), but because I'd want to show concern for my friend. Obviously, if you need a place to stay something bad has happened. If talking about it was to upsetting, I wouldn't push, but I'd certainly ask.
exactly!!
True. I can't imagine just thinking, "Well, stuff happens. Whatever." and never questioning it at all. But I suppose there are people that can do that!

This is exactly what I think!

From my view, I would want to know what happened, because if it was a domestic situation, that situation could come to your home and threaten your family. Not only that, the houseguest might need some kind of victim services if she left because of something bad. Not saying that everytime someone leaves someone else, that it is because of a domestic. I'm just saying it's best to know.
I don't consider it nosy, I consider it being smart.
