Juice question

I am going to introduce juice to Tyler and am reluctant to since alot of them have tons of sugar.

What is a good juice that is low in sugar?

TIA

Re: Juice question

  • Juice is basically liquid sugar.  There are some that don't add extra sugar, but they all have a lot.  Off the top of my head Juicy Juice does not add extra sugar.

  • my dd drinks juice with lunch and i found a great juice that doesn't have much sugar in it at all, only 9 grams.  this is much better than some that have 25 grams.

its organic and i have to admit it's more expensive, but i can just give her the little juice box and don't feel as bad.  it's sensible sippers and they have the berstien bears on them.  our favorite is the berry.  i can only find it at HEB, which is where i shop anyway.

  • we give dd watered down apple juice. two parts water to two parts juice.

I'm curious why you want to add juice to her diet? Is she not eating fruit?

Look at organic or all natural juice. That way the only sugar will be the natural ones form the fruit itself. Theses are the 2 brands I use:
    Santa Cruz
    R.W. Knudsen

I can find both in most grocery stores-Kroger, Giant, HEB , Whole Foods...

I currently buy them in the larger jars vs juice boxes and I only am adding 2oz juice to 6 oz water.

  • We don't give juice either.  Just don't see the need for it and DS is perfectly happy without it.

  • Starting juice...that was a BAD plan for us!  It's all he will drink most days!

We started him on https://www.appleandeve.com/school-nutrition/products-nutritional-information/apple-eve-fruitables/ because it has a serving of vegetables and he won't touch vegetables at all!

They have between 9-10grams of sugar a serving and I've only ever found them at HEB.

we add a splash of juice to water as a treat.  I buy what ever is the best price with 100% juice.  I make sure to read the fine print in the ingrediants and make sure it's only juice with nothing else.
  • we only give OJ when she's sick as an extra source of vitamin C.  there's no real need to give juice unless you just want to do so.

They sell these at Costco too. I thought I saw them at Kroger as well, but I'm not 100% on that.

But I wish I'd never introduced it. She never wants water. The only good thing is that I still water her juice a lot and she doesn't seem to mind. I usually do 25% juice / 75% water.

  • Tyler loves fruit so I might hold off on it for now the more I think about it.

Fortunately he loves water and his whole milk. If I do introduce it soon I will look into the organic ones suggested by some a few of you.

    Thanks so much.

Thanks!  I'll have to look at Costco next time I go.  I've never seen them at Kroger but I'll look again when I go grocery shopping this week.  I usually have to make a separate trip to HEB just for juice.

Of course, I have a crash course plan of getting ds off of juice by not buying it for a while!  I usually water down cranberry juice for him and he likes that, so I figure I'm getting some water in him, but the last 2 days the only thing he will drink for me are the juice boxes and it has to be in the box! *sigh*

  • We don't do juice either.  Tyler drinks water SO well that I never saw a need to let him know anything else was an option...lol.  I would hold off on juice and push water as his drink of choice, just my opinion.

  • Truitt only had juice as a treat until he was over 3. now i give him a juice box maybe 2x a week in his lunch. i give him Knudsen that someone else mentioned or there is one I buy at CM or WF called "Juice Slam." it's from one of the well known organic companies but I can't remember now. Anyway, it's mega vitamin fortified and no added sugar. He gets one or two a week when he is being a particularly picky eater.

    Mathis does not get juice.
