Pre-School and Daycare

Wanna hear a crazy story about my day?

Went to Ikea to return something today. Opened my trunk, grabbed the stuff, got annoyed because the receipt was missing, closed the trunk. Reached in my purse for the keys - no where. Panic attack begins. Look in trunk: there are the keys. (I drive an SUV.) Panic more. Go over to Dakota and tell her I locked the keys in, someone will come and help her out. I tried to get her to push the button on her car seat, but she couldn't do it.

I have AAA, but thought there is no way, they are going to take forever. It was probably 100 degrees today.

Called 911. I have no idea if that was something I was "supposed" to do or if I was abusing the system, but I didn't care. I was freakin out! Get off the phone with the operator and not even 2 minutes later, the fire truck comes tearing across the parking lot with lights on, oh LORD. 3 firemen hop out and I wanted to RUN AND HIDE. "Yeah, hey guys, I'm one of those idiot parents that lock my kid in the car on a 100 degree day."

It took them a few minutes but got my door open. They used a: blood pressure cuff, a wood door jam (that keeps a door open) and a wire hook. LOL

Luckily D was okay, but not really something I want to relive ever again!!!

Lesson of the day: always check for keys before closing the door!

  • Hugs

This is one of my biggest fears, and I'm absent-minded enough to do it, especially after I have 2 kids giving  my mommy brain

  • Oh no!  I'm glad it all worked out.  I would have been mortified too but it's better than other possible outcomes.  You've definitely earned a glass of wine tonight!

  • I am so glad everything worked out!

And yes, that is something you are supposed to call 911 for. DH goes to quite a few of those calls.

  • How scary!  I'm so sorry that happened to you guys, and so glad that everything turned out alright.  I would have called 911 too, so I think you did the right thing.
  • Omg!  I would have done the same thing!  Glad you girls are ok!  One day you will laugh about it. : )
  • I think you were really smart to call 911. On a day like that, she could have roasted in no time flat. I'm always sure this is going to happen to me at some point, but so far, I've lucked out.
  • :::raises hand::: I've done that. But it was when i was a nanny. So i had to fess up to the parents. The little boy did for me when the first thing out of his mouth was "the firemen rescued me." LOL GOOD JOB ACTING FAST AND CALLING 911! what did D think of all that?
  • oh, my! I would have also called!
