I haven't been on these posts in a hundred years but I just had to log in to ask is Gillian THAT weird of a name. I've noticed I cannot find it anywhere. I know the G thing throws people off (even though that is the original English spelling...the J is the bastardizing...but thats another story). I haven't even seen it with a J.
This is all brought about by a trip to Sesame Place with my Elmo freak twins. My daughter was very upset they did not have an Elmo cup with her name. I wouldn't have cared if I didn't see the following names ...
Savannah
Sierra
Ryleigh
Zane
Bennett
Archer
Alexa
...not bad names but they have them but not Gillian....heck I would have settled for Jill...plain old Jill. Very weird what makes the cut. I know its not Mary but geez.
Re: Gillian
I don't think Gillian is weird at all, but all of those names (with the exception of Ryleigh spelled that way) are probably more popular. Bennett, Savannah, Sierra, etc, are all a lot more common than you'd think, while the old standards, such as Mary and Jill, just aren't used as much today for the population that will be begging for merchandise from Sesame Place.
ETA: You can probably find a place online that will personalize Elmo merchandise with the name of your choice.
No - it's a nice name (one of my favorite G names). I agree with pp - go online. Sure that doesn't take care of the "keychain now please!" issue, but it's a nice surprise.
Maybe Gillian will like her name one day like Emily did.

I know a girl named Gillian. I'm surprised there isn't anything with that spelling or the "J"
But DS is always getting upset when they don't stock things with his name, and Charlie or Charles isn't exactly uncommon either.
