Trouble TTC

Hi and a poll

Hi everybody!
Even though I've haven't been much around I've been keeping an eye on lots of you.
Work keeps me busy and then I'm trying to enjoy every bit of summer. Smile
Poll: do you recycle? To what extent? Is your H onboard?

  • Yes.  We recycle cans, bottles, plastic bags, jars - all glass and plastic basically.  And newspaper too.  If we have big cardboard items then we take them to a special dumpster for cardboard.

Where I live does not do weekly curbside pickup, so we have to take all of our recycling to these special dumpsters.  DH is on board, but I sometimes spy things in the trash that belong in the recyle.  I don't think it's that he doesn't care, I think he just sometimes forgets that whatever it is can actually be recyled.  I am by far the more vigilant of the two of us.

  • We do, but we don't go too much out of our way.  We recycle paper/cardboard, and glass/plastics/metals.

I gotta be honest though, if NYC didn't fine you for not recycling, I probably wouldn't do it.Embarrassed

  • Hi:) We do... just glass/cardboard/cans/plastic.  Luckily we have curbside pick up or honestly I don't think we'd do it.  DH is onboard for the most part but neither of us are great about remembering (I'm getting better about it though!!)

Definitely makes a difference in the space in our trashcan:P

  • Yup we recycle paper, plastic, carboard and cans.  Our town has a recycling program and supplies the bin and weekly curbside pickup.

DH and SS are now on board but need some reminding Big Smile when we first started to recycle.

Nova! Show me those hands! A smack on each one. LOL.
We do, the works. Pick up is every other week. And it's almost 50-50. Sometimes my recycle is fuller than regular trash. Shrugs.
The hubs is onboard but forgets a lot. I rarely think about it. It's an old habit, a good one.
And sometimes that is the start of mini fights and bickering; I mean how hard is it to do really?!

  • We recycle anything we can recycle and we have a composter. I just wish our city recycled more things like plastic bags.....well I guess they kinda do, we have to pay for bags at the store now. We bring our own!

  • We recycle--cans, plastic, bottles, paper, cardboard, really whatever our city will take. DH is overzealous, and sometimes I catch him trying to put stuff in the recycling bin that can't be recycled!

I know, I'm so bad.  I shouldn't say that I wouldn't do it, I would still recycle but I'd probably be much more lackadaisical about it.

  • We do.  We recycle our plastic, cans and paper goods.  We take our cans to a drop off center that gives you money for exchange.  We give all of our old newspapers to DH's parents because they soley heat with fireplaces and need the extra paper.

I try to re-use a lot of items like butter tubs.  Some items I take to DD's preschool for projects (egg cartons, paper towel rolls, magazines ect...).

  • Yep we do. We live just outside of our city limits so we have to use a privately owned company. They offer a rewards program if you chose their recycling program. Every other week they pick up your recycling and weigh it. For each pound you get points. They take paper, most plastics and cardboard. We *try* to recycle our glass by taking it to the grocery store when we go but we often forget. DH is on board but after 3 years is still asking "can this be recycled?" LOL!
  • Yes, we both recycle with a vengance.  We are lucky to have a program in our area that provides the bin (a HUGE bin too!) and curbside pickup every other week.

ETA: we recycle everything that we can; cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminum, newspaper, magazines, etc.

  • Our municipality requires participation in the recycling program.  I don't mind it, though.  I'd probably do it even if we didn't have to.  It saves us some money, too, because we pay by the bag for garbage pick-up and the recycling fee is a flat $1.80/month.  We probably save over $15 - $20/month by not putting out so many garbage bags.
  • We recycle plastic & glass bottles, cans and cardboard boxes ( like pizza boxes). We re-use the plastic grocery store bags by using those to pick up our dogs' poop when we take them for walks. Once we finally have a LO, we will also use those for diapers as well ( vs. using a diaper genie)

  • We recycle everything we can: paper, cans, cardboard, plastic.  DH is totally on board - we live in a condo and don't have anyone pick it up, so he will usually take it to the recycling center a few miles away.
