Experiences at Baptist hospital in Fernandina Beach Fl

Hi,

I have moved to Fernandina Beach Florida from NY in April and am 6 1/2 months pregnant now. I started going to Baptist in Jacksonville and saw all the doctors there once so far and really liked them. The problem is the commute is like 40-45 minutes away and I really much rather go to the closer hospital which is like 5 minutes away. I had a C-section with my previous pregnancy and will probably have another one.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?? Should I stay with Baptist in Jacksonville are they much better or Do you think it is good to switch and go to the closer hospital?

I appreciate all suggestions, stories and experiences at either hospital.

Thanks so much :)

  • Welcome to Florida!  I don't have any experience with that hospital, but I would definitely prefer a 5 minute commute to a 45 minute one!  However, the Downtown location does have the NICU (don't know about the location closer to you).  I would probably feel more comfortable being at the Downtown one, G-d forbid your LO needs to go to the NICU.  Good luck with your decision!

  • I agree. Especially if you are planning a repeat C, chances are it will be a scheduled procedure. So, you won't be riding for 45 minutes in labor. If you like the Drs, i would stay put. But, if there is a NICU at the one closer, make the move.
  • Hi,

I was so excited to see your post because I too have the exact same question! I was then a bit bummed that no one has made the same decision themselves. I have been going to an OB in Jacksonville, at St. Vincent's hospital, but live less than 5 min from Baptist in Fernandina.  I don't think that Fernandina has a NICU, and this being my first I'm a bit paranoid of any potential problems.  My husband is pulling for Fernandina b/c its so much closer.

So far I've met two ladies that went to Fernandina Baptist and loved it, but then again I've met quite a few that live in Fernandina and have gone to either St. Vincent's or St. Luke's.

What did you end up deciding?

    Thanks!
