So my DH is 6'3 and 220lbs. I am 5'0 and about 120 lbs (on a good day haha). Whenever people look at us they say how Im going to get HUGE because DH is so tall and Im so short. I wonder actually if the father is pretty tall if the size of the baby is influenced. I heard somewhere else that the size of the baby is totally dependent on the size of the mother for a while. This is prob a myth though.

Re: Daddy Size vs Mommy Size
I thought I was going to have a small baby. I am 4'11" - 130 lbs and my husband is 5'6" and 170 but my son came 5 weeks early and was really big for a preemie.
At birth he weighted 6 lbs 3 oz and was 18.25" long. Dr. said if would have been full term he would have been closer to 10 lbs.
So small people do not always make small babies.
Also, because I was so short I thought I would show earlier but I was wrong. I started showing at 18 weeks.
EVERYTHING I heard was lies!

I don't know if there's any truth to this... but someone told me that the size of the baby depends on the size of both parents at birth, and that the baby will fall somewhere in there.
Ex: If dad was 8lbs 4oz and mom was 9lbs 8oz the baby will be somewhere between the two.
Again, I have no idea if thats true or not!
It's really a matter of biology and genetics. All babies don't get their hair color from the same parent (ie: all babies will have their mother's hair color), so why would height be any different? You all know how babies are made, right? (I'm talking from a microscopic level, not from the "when a man and a woman fall in love" level")

My dh is 6'5 220. I am 5'4 140.
My ds was 5 weeks early. He weighed 5lbs 12 oz but was 21 inches long.
FYI that is very long, especially for a preemie. My ds is still very tall. No one ever believe he's not even 2 yet and they have been telling me that for months!
I didn't carry very huge. I mean I was big, but pretty average size I guess. The only thing was ds felt long to me, his legs were always in my ribs. oooy it was painful. I also swelled up tremendously so it was hard to say at the end what was baby and what was water weight.
Natural MC - 4/18/10 (9 weeks)
DS was born six weeks early on December 2010!
Natural MC - 11/21/11 (7 weeks)
DS born full term on October 2012!
I don't think that's true - I gained almost nothing during 1st tri last time and kiddo was 8lb 6oz. The only way mother's weight gain plays a factor is if you develop GD - that can lead to a higher birth weight.
I think parents' size at birth (not whether they are large or small now) has some correlation to their child's birth size - but nothing is certain!

Ahhh, I just found it in the book. It's in Your Pregnancy Week by Week, page 61. It actually says that it is a factor to watch, but from rereading the section it's not likely the most important factor and it makes sense to think that genetics proabably plays a much larger part.
The book says "The amount you gain in the first 13 weeks has been found to correlate more closely with you baby's birth weight than the amount of weight you put on later in the pregnancy. If you gain a lot of weight during the first trimester, your baby may be large. Conversely, if you don't gain very much weight in early pregnancy, you may have a lower birthweight baby."
Like I said, it was nothing I had ever heard before.
If this is true, I'm doomed! I was 9lb,5oz & DH was just over 8lbs....yikes!
I have a friend who is 4'11'' and her DH is 6'. Their baby was just over 6lbs.
I was 8.10 when I was born, and DH was 8.3. DD was born weighing 8lbs 10.6oz. I don't think you can predict how big your baby will be!
As adults, DH and I are the same height and both are a little overweight for our height. DH was 2 weeks early and was only 6 lbs 7 oz when he was born. I was born on my due date and was 8 lbs 4 oz. And when I was growing up, I was always in the 95% percentile as far as height and weight.
Katie is following in her mom's footsteps when it comes to height and weight. She was 8 lbs 7 oz when she was born and is in the 95% for height and weight.
That is just in our case though, I'm not sure what the statistics are.
