Does your dh open your car door ?

or any doors??

Today when we were leaving our childbirth class, I noticed that all the dhs were opening their wives' door but mine....  so i was like hey!!

He does open the door for me occasionally if we go out to a store or restaurant...  it's not a big deal but I cant' believe that there are men that still do!!!  lol

Re: Does your dh open your car door ?

  • He opens building doors, but not car doors most of the time.  Sometimes he does help me out of the car though if I need it!

  • Not the car door, but other doors he opens for me.  He always offers to drop me off by the door at places though, does that count? hehe :)

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.

  • DH told me that custom is no longer necessary since cars have automatic locks on the keychain.

I had to remind him that men weren't doing it just to unlock the door, they were doing it to be nice.

  • yea Dh will drop me off at the door at times...   I don't think he thinks about it...   and lauren so is Dh!!  He's from Louisiana but lives in NY, you would think that he would remember..  lol
  • Yes.  He even opens the car door if it's down pooring and I used the keyless entry... He's such a gem.

That being said I know  A LOT of husbands who don't.

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • car door... no. ?all other doors... yes. ?and honestly, i would feel very weird with him opening car doors for me.
  • Yes, DH almost always opens my car door. He always has. As well as any other door.

  • Yup, since our very first date. ?Both my FIL and brother have given him flack for raising the bar and making them look like chumps. ?
  • Not the car door, but other doors, yes. Last weekend, we went somewhere with DH, his brother and bro's gf...I was sitting behind BIL, who was driving. everytime we went to get into the car, BIL opened my door for me. I thought it was sweet and his gf thought it was cute.

  • every time we go anywhere, and even when i leave for work in the morning...he walks me to the car and opens my door, then hands me my lunch bag and kisses me!  he was trained right.

DH is so insistant on door opening, that he is known for grabbing my arm when we are going into a place, stopping me, then reaching for the door, rather then just let me do it myself....i love DH

  • Most door yes, the car door no.  I feel stupid sitting in the car and waiting for a guy to come around and open it.  I always make sure I open my own car door.  And I'm even from the south.

  • Yeah, clarification... he only opens the car door when i get in, not when it get out.
  • Car door: not since he was still trying to get into my pants.  Big Smile

    Other doors: yes, usually.

  • Yes he does and always has. As far as restaurant doors, we live in the south, and pretty much everyone opens the door for the person approaching, male or female. It is rude not to here, and if you see someone let the door close behind them without looking,  you'll hear someone mutter, "That was rude. I wonder where they're from?"

Guys in the south also stand on the bus or subway and tell the ladies to sit. It is a big perk of living here. I was offended in NYC for awhile when I saw how people let the door close without looking or didn't stand there and hold it open for the next person. I kept asking my husband - where are the gentlemen in this city?

  • Sometimes, if I'm lucky. I love it when he does. He was never taught to do so, I've slowly been teaching him. Yeah yeah, I can open the door myself, but I like when he is prince charming.
  • Car door? Absolutely not! I would get annoyed by that. I like to get in the car and get going. Him waiting for me to get in would slow us down.
  • i have been with DH over 9years and he has always opened doors for me..any door..?
  • He has opened every door since we started dating 8 years ago.  He even orders my dinner when we go out (once I tell him what I want of course).  and Almost every Sunday he makes breakfast.   All these good things makes me feel bad when I complain about some of the things he doesn't do.    LOL

  • in the 12 years we've been together, I don't think he's EVER opened the car door for me.

He has opened other doors (like into a store, restaurant, etc) but if he doesn't actually open them for me he will hold them open - he wont let it close before i reach it.

  • DH used to but it drives me nuts so he eventually gave up on it. He'll still other doors, just not the car door.
  • he opens every other door except the car door.
  • Always if we're in his car b/c his clicker is broken and he has to unlock it with a key. ?If we're in my car and he's driving, I just open my own door. ?But he opens other doors for me; house, mall, restaurants, etc.
  • He never opens the car door for me, but will open other doors.

  • Absolutely. He opens all doors for me.He also opens sodas, beers, food, etc.

He pulls out chairs for me and wont sit until I am seated...

When we went out on our first date he was that guy who stood up when I went to the bathroom. I was kind of embarrased. I made him stop.

  • Nope. He'll open the door if we go out to a restruant or store and lately he gives me a little push so I can actually get out of the car!
  • Yep. He never lets me get one.

  • For the most part he does not open car doors for me, but lately he has helped me get into the car. He opens all other doors for me though, he won't even let me get to the door first to open it. He is a sweetie.
  • Yes, and he shuts it for me too!
  • I drive the car, so I have they keys. Sometimes I'm sweet and I unlock his door before going around to mine. As for all the other doors in the world, he opens it if he gets to it first, and he always holds the door open, and not just for me.
  • Now that I think about it, mine doesn't do it either! bummer....
  • Yes, he always does. Car doors, store doors, every door.?

  • We open doors for each other. If he's driving, he unlocks and opens my door first. If I'm driving, I open his. Lately he moves faster (surprise, surprise) than I do, so he usually gets to most other doors first, but before pregnancy it was mutual -- whoever got there first held the door for the other.

  • Yep, every single time we get in the car, unless I'm driving.  It's something his dad feels very strongly about and trained him to do.  If we're with his parents going some place and DH doesn't wait for me to get in to close the door after me FIL scolds him.  DH usually doesn't wait around to close the door for me unless his parents are around, lol.

When we first started dating, DH wouldn't even let me open the door for him to go into a restaurant, it's ridiculous.  DH has relaxed about this point, but FIL sure hasn't.

  • When we are in his truck he does.
  • Sometimes... more now that I'm pg.  In the past if I teased him about not opening the door he'd say he didn't want to be anti-feminist & imply that I'm not capable of opening the door myself- reading far too much into it.
