I THOUGHT we finally found the perfect bedding...

So DH and I went to register for furniture for the nursey and saw this bedding in one of the cribs and fell in love with it. Both of us immediately said how perfect it was, so we registered for this bedding along with the (dark brown) crib and dresser. We thought this is very chic bedding for a boy. We registered for the 4 piece set along with the mobile, hamper and lamp. We will most likely choose a cream, beige, or dark olive green glider chair.

After we got home, I was playing around online to look at the photos and realized this is actually girl bedding and no matter where I looked online, people were using it for girls and the company refers to it as girl bedding. This sort of thing wouldn't usually bother me so much but for some reason it does! Keep in mind that in person, the green looks a bit darker, more of an avocado or retro green, which is why we thought "boy" when we saw it in person.

What do you think? Could this pass a boy bedding or is it definitely girl?

We will not be using these drapes, which do make it kind of girly...

  • First instinct for me says girl, the color is more masculine, but it is a demask type design. It is beautiful and if it were purple I would swoop it up for my lil one on the way.

If you love it get it, he wont know the difference. Unless he sees pictures of it later in life.

  • I agree - the colour says boy but the damask print says girl. If you love it, go for it. It's a baby, after all, and you could just say you wanted something that owuld go both ways in case hte next one is a girl...

  • Darn, I have to agree with pp.  I mostly do not think that gender matters when picking out bedding, but this one really says girl to me because of the flowery part of the bedding.  But if you guys like it, so what? Go with it anyway!

  • It's fine. It's a baby, not a linebacker, you know? I'm using blue for a girl, though, so maybe I'm not the expert!
  • I'd say it's somewhat neutral.  A lot of the neutral bedding I've looks at has been this damask or victorian looking type of prints.  Reality is, you won't be using the comforter anyway.  Once you fill the room with his toys and clothes and things, the room will definitely look boy.

  • I wouldn't put it in a "big boy room", but I think you can make it work just fine for a baby boy's room.  I agree, the damask does probably lend itself to a girl better than a boy, but it's still a classic design (and the green is perfectly masculine).  So long as you keep the rest of the room free from anything frou-frou or feminine, I'd say you're fine.  And if you both love it, definitely keep it!

  • I feel for you, because I had the exact same thing happen to me.  I thought it was very gender neutral and everyone I showed it to said boy, so I was back to the drawing board.  I agree with pps that it's the damask print that makes it look more girly.  However, I also agree with pps that the baby definitely won't know the difference if you want to keep it!
  • I think you would be fine using it for either. Don't stress. You can definitely put some masculine decorations up. He will love it!

  • I think you could make it work for a baby boy. I would not go overboard with the print (like the internet pics do). Maybe just use pieces from the bedding (I.E. skirt, bumper, sheet) and do something different for the window treatments/other fabric accessories.

I also woud do a lot of accenting with chocolate brown! I think it looks good! Go with your gut! :))

  • it does look a tad feminine, but it doesn't necessarily scream girl.. especially if you used some masculine accents I think it could totally work..  I probably wouldn't use the drapes and hamper and the whole set, but the bedding would look nice with coordinating black and white accents!
