On 08/18/08 I was 41 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I was scheduled for an induction on the 19th. On the 18th at 9:30pm, I started having time-able contractions about 20 min. apart. By 3:30am the contractions were 3-5min apart. We headed to the hospital and they checked me where I was 1cm dilated like I had been for the past 3 weeks. They called my doctor who told them to admit me and they started me on pitocin but they said no meds until the dr. came in at 8am or 9am. By about 6:30 am they decided that I could have Hal Dol (sp?). They injected it into my IV and basically it allowed me to sleep between contractions (so 2-3min at a time) but gave me no pain relief during the contractions. My Dr. came in at 9:30am and checked me, I was still about 1cm but they decided to let me have an epidural anyway. Also at this point the Dr. tried to break my water bag but basically nothing came out. The Dr. thought that I was probably low but that the rest of the water was probably behind the baby and we?d see it when he was born. No worries. The epidural as everyone says was amazing. The initial shot in the back hurt but not any worse than getting a shot at the dentist. It was totally worth it, just a little nerve-wracking with the whole needle in the back thing. I was only allowed to lie on one side of my body because the baby?s heart rate would dip if I was moved at all. The Dr. came back about 11:30 and found that I was 4cm. About 1:30 I started having pain in my tailbone again which is where my contractions had been initially. They checked me again and I was still at 4cm. At about 2:30 the Dr. came back and started talking C/S due to failure to progress, she also thought that he might be stuck since we were expecting an 8lb+ baby even if he would have been on time. We decided to wait 2 hours and see if I progressed anymore. After an hour the Dr. decided that due to nothing changing, the lack of water, and his heart rate dipping whenever I moved whatsoever we needed to do a c/s. They brought me in about 15min later and numbed me with more epidural. They did all their prepping and brought in Dh. About 10 min in the Dr. told me to expect the worst pressure of my life for 20 sec. She wasn?t kidding. Andrew James came out a couple seconds later crying. He was 8lbs 4oz and 20.5 inches long. I was walking the next morning at 5am which was pretty uncomfortable but doable with the two nurses helping me. We were discharged 3 days after Andrew?s birth. I?m feeling basically like normal now, just a little sore here and there.
