At my last appointment my doctor told me I was not timing sex at the right time. He said I needed to do it on day12 then skip 13 and do it again on 14. This would be true if I had a 28 day cycle but mine is always anywhere from 31-36(and this month 36) . I mentioned this to him and he still said the same thing. Starting clomid this cycle days 5-9 and the only other cycle I took it I ended up having a 38 day cycle. correct me if I am wrong but if i had a 30 day cycle wouldn't I O on day 16, 32 day 18 and so on? Any advice helpful. On cd day 14 I had some heavy spottong for one day right out of the blue then nothing till I started on day 36. I am wondering what it was and if that is maybe why I started so late on cd 36. It's weird the day the doctor wanted me to have sex I was bleeding and according to him should have been O'ing. Any advice helpful, this is so frustrating........GL to all of you and thanks for the insight. Never dreamed I would be on cycle 19,,, Been lurking a lot here lately so hope you don't mind me asking questions you all just seem to know a whole lot and appreciate your knowledge.
Re: A few questions if you don't mind, on my 19th cycle :(
I'm no doctor, but I would think if you have a long cycle (like I used to have before my DD) that you would O late instead of the usual CD14. I do not like it when doctors treat patients as textbook. Not everyone is the same. ugg.

i'm assuming that your dr is an OB? i would find an RE. really, you should be monitored when on clomid, and they should be doing a mid-cycle u/s to see if and how many follicles you have. that will help in timing intercourse. we also use a trigger shot, which is a huge help in timing everything.
that being said, before we went back to the RE, i had a 28 day cycle, but didn't O until cd 18/19. my LP was really short. as far as i can tell, it's a total guessing game.
good luck!!!
I'd definitely get to an RE. A doc that's insisting you O on CD14 is clearly not going to help you get PG.
I'd also get a copy of Taking Charge of Your Fertility and start charting before you see the RE. It will probably help you figure out a lot about your cycle (like when and If you're Oing.)
I'm also on cycle 19, so I know how you feel!!
I think you should be looking for a better doctor. Not everyone ovulates on day 14 and you need someone who will monitor you closely while on clomid. He really doesn't sound like he knows much about it at all...
Good luck!
I agree. I have around a 28 day cycle and typically O on CD16 or 17. Occasionally on 12. So I don't fit your doctor's textbook definition of O or CD14 at all.

Agree with PP completely. You should definitely start charting and figure out when you O based on temperature change, CM, etc. The spotting you had could have been caused because you were getting ready to ovulate. I usually spot for 3-4 days before. I've actually heard that it's a sign of strong ovulation, but haven't followed up on researching that so don't quote me.
If it's your 19th cycle, I'd say it's time to move along to an RE, especially if your OB isn't monitoring you on Clomid. Have you had any testing done, and has your husband done his first SA?
