distracted nurser

please give me your tips to keep a distracted nurser on task. I think I've finally figured out why DS needs to nurse every 2 hrs all night- he is a snacker during the day and gets distracted after having a snack. I really want to change this habit asap. I ordered some nursing necklaces online but until they get here, what can I do?

Re: distracted nurser

  • Are you already nursing in a "boring" location? Around four months I started nursing Zack in his nursery exclusively, because it's darker and quieter than the rest of the house. If I try to feed him anywhere else he'll eat enough to take the edge off and then roll away to go play with his toys or his dad or ... well, anything other than me.

  • i've figured out that i have to nurse dd in a boring place and sometimes tickle her under her chin or on the back of her neck. it helps her refocus!
  • My son has been getting so distracted lately.  I started singing to him and it's made all the difference!  I sing Hush Little Baby and, even though he isn't tired, he relaxes and nurses so much better.  I wish I knew that when he entered the distracted 4-5 month old stage!  I also nurse him almost exclusively in his rocker in his room unless we are out and that seems to help.

  • Just recently, LO started unlatching, talking a bunch to me, then relatching, then unlatching, talking some more....he has tons to say it seems and would rather talk to me than eat.  (Baby talk of course!)  It is adorable, but nursing is taking for.ev.er!
