Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Help with STTN

Let me start by saying that my son is a very easy baby.  He is sweet, rarely cries and is overall very even tempered.  That being said, he sleeps through the night--but thinks that night time lasts from 1:00am - 10:00am.  Last night, he had a bath, nursed, cuddled, etc. around 8pm and "went down" for the night.  He slept peacefully until about 10:00pm, then woke up screaming and wanted to nurse every hour or so until about 1:00am when he drifted back off to sleep.  He slept until 7am when I woke him up to nurse and he went back to sleep without any trouble by 7:30 and will probably sleep until 10am or so.  THIS HAPPENS EVERY NIGHT!

So, my question is, how do I bump back this fabulous sleeping so that I'm not up until 1am with "can't get settled" baby and then back up at 6am with my 3 year old for the day?

We've tried the pacifier, bottle with husband, co sleeping, rocking, bouncing, etc etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

  • My DD is kind of the same way.  I've tried to change her schedule, but when she's awake: she's awake, and when she wants to sleep: she sleeps!  I've had no success in changing it.

  • Maybe try putting him down to sleep at 10?

Maybe try putting him down to sleep at 10?

This is what we do.  He usually falls asleep around 8-9pm and I wake him at 10-10:30 to feed one last little bit.  Sometimes he pretty much dream feeds, other times he doesn't want to wake and that's fine.  But often he's hungry enough by that time that when offered, he'll wake, eat, and go down in his crib for the night.  GL!

  • I'd try to just do bath, feed, bed when you want him to go down for the night (is that 10p?).

I find with DD that she actually gets tired before she gets hungry at night so while she normally eats every 4 hours during the day - her bedtime is 9.  So if she last ate at 7, she doesn't care, she has her bath and wants to go to bed.  She might only take an ounce, but she takes what she needs and sleeps from 9-5, wakes, eats, and back down to 9A.  I always thought they needed/wanted a full big feeding before bed (and sometimes she does) but sometimes she just wants an ounce or two and conks out.

This is exactly what happens at our house and she slept from 10:30-7am last night.  Good luck!
