Let's discuss nap dropping and schedule changes

I posted a couple weeks ago about wanting to adjust Mathis's routine b/c he was being a pill in the afternoons. Then he started napping again but the last 3 days, no nap until today he fell asleep in the car...

Truitt was such a bad, inconsistent sleeper that I haven't really been through the real nap changes that most kids make. I think Mathis may be dropping a nap but I am not sure. Sometimes I think he just trying to pissmeoff... Really, tho, share your experiences with nap dropping, schedule adjustments, how that changed night time, etc...

Also, am I the only person in the history of mankind who has a kid who drops his afternoon nap and what the hell should I do about it?

Not much has changed around here with our nap issues, unfortunately, so I feel your pain!  What time does he go to bed, wake, and sort of nap?

Wakes up around 5:30-6 (6:30 on a good day), takes a 90 minute nap around 8:30, was taking an afternoon nap around 1:30 for another 90 minutes. Sometimes if he got to sleep too late because we were out doing something very active, he could sleep for 2- 2.5 hours.

  • How late can you push the morning one back?  Owen's morning nap shifted as he got older to late morning and then more like 11 or noonish... at some point, it just became the only one.  He did go back and forth between one and two naps a day depending on wake up time and morning activities between 11 and 15 months and then usually just took one except for very rare occurrences in the car.  It did make lunch plans almost impossible for awhile there until the nap could wait until after lunch, but he finally became a good napper with the one nap.
  • Emmy went from 3 naps a day up to about 12 months (+ - a couple of months..can't remember).  So it was like woke up 6am, 30 min nap at 9:30, 1.5 hour nap at 12:30, and then 30 min nap around 4:30, and then bedtime around 7:30.

I think a little after 1 years old, she dropped to 2 naps a day, so it was like woke up at 6am, 30 min nap at 10am, and then 1.5 hour nap around 1:30, bedtime around 7:30.

A little after 18 months, she dropped to 1 nap a day and she's still on 1 nap a day.  It use to be around noon for about 1.5 to 2 hours, now it's around 1:30pm for 1.5 to 2 hours.

The way you can tell is when it gets close to their nap time, if they still appear happy and full of energy, you may be able to just delay the nap time.  She just stopped being tired at 9:30 and so we let her go to 10 or so and saw that she got a little cranky and said..nap time!  As she got older, she was still happy and full of energy at 10 and so we let her go to 11 or 12 and so forth....

It sounds like he was on a great schedule for a while!  Well, aside from starting his day at 530/6  :)  I'm not sure how old Mathis is, but even though Aiden fights naps all the time I don't think he's ready for just one/day.  He tries to fall asleep at 5 otherwise and that won't work.

I hope you have some success in reworking your schedule soon!
