We're still discussing names and really like Charlotte Jane. It was ranked #66 in our state by the SSA, which isn't too bad. I just feel like I've seen the name a lot. WDYT?

Personally, I don't think it is too popular and would definitely use it (love the name)! The only younger Charlotte I know is my friend's daughter, and she is 4 now I think.

I don't know any Charlotte's IRL, but I think it's really pretty, and classic enough not to be considered "trendy." It's one of those old names that's coming back, but I say use it!
Actually, Charlotte is #1 and has been for the entirety of 2010. It might drop down to the second or third position by the end of the year, but it has made a huge leap in popularity this year.
It is getting popular, but I still love the name. I absolutely adore the nickname "Lottie". Charlie is kind of cute too for a nickname, although a little boyish

Isn't this based on the "searching" of names, not the actual bestowing of names? I feel like Charlotte is one of those names that many, many people think is beautiful and might search for and consider, but I honestly don't hear of that many people actually naming their kid that IRL? This is all based on gut feeling : ), very scientific!, but I do work with kids so see lots of IRL names. I think it is a gorgeous, classic name and sounds wonderful with Jane.
According to the article: "Of course, the nameberry list is vastly different than the
official list of Most Popular Names in the U.S. The Social Security list
is based on all actual births and name choices in the country, while
the nameberry list measures which names our relatively style-conscious
visitors are most curious about. Plus nameberry searches come from all
over the world -- about a third of our visits originate outside the US
-- while the Social Security list tracks which names Americans actually
give their children."
But, since the next SSA list wont be released until next May, this gives you a pretty good indication of up and coming trends before then. The Nameberry List for 2009's top 4 listed names were the same as the top 4 on the SSA's list. It's not an exact science, obviously, but I've definitely seen Charlotte jump in popularity among friends and acquaintances and it is brought up on here often enough to make me think it's going to very popular.
I don't know any Charlottes IRL (only 1 who is 23, goes by Charlie & lives in the UK), but see the name a HECK of a whole lot on here... I know that doesn't help much, but FWIW, I think it's a beautiful name.
Haha yea this. I think it's more popular on here than IRL.
I love the name Charlotte and I don't know any IRL... and I live in NYC! I never even hear it anywhere anymore. I feel like it was more popular 4-6 years ago.
I actually know a lot of Charlottes. I don't know if it's our social circle/region or what, but we've run across a lot. Which is funny because Evelyn ranks higher on the SS list and we really only know one other Evelyn.
It's definitely increasing in popularity. I have the feeling that in a few years it will be at the top of the list. And it annoys me because it wasn't even in the top hundred when we named our Charlotte. =/

Personally, if you really like a name, does it really matter if it's popular? Also just because the SSA list says it is, doesn't mean it really is in your specific area. I've yet to run into another Olivia where we live and we do lots of activites, storyhours, etc.
I only know one 1 Charlotte and she was my 2nd grade teacher. That being said I do think it's a very lovely name. I have thought about it myself for a future DD but DH said nope
I live in Ohio and it's not a common name. My sister plans on using Charlotte Isbella for her girls name if she has a girl. I love the name since it was my mothers name.
Considering that we are using Charlotte Jane-I love it! LOL I don't think it is overused. I have never met a Charlotte in real life. I think it is more popular on the bump. If you love it-use it. I have never worried about popularity b/c it is hard to find a name that we both can agree on that we both love too. FWIW she will be YOUR Charlotte and that is what is most important.
I think it is gaining in popularity and is the one of only two girl names DH and I agree on, so if we have a girl she will very likely be named Charlotte (actually Charlotte Jane is a name we are considering too!)
I checked the most current SSA list by state and it's not even in the top 100 in my state, so I don't think there will too many Charlotte's running around where we are.
It's such a classic name though so it's rising popularity will not deter us from using it.
Charlotte is on our list & Jane is my middle name [that is my grandmother's first name and my GREAT GREAT grandmother's middle name lol]
I LOVE it together! I don't think it's too popular. I hear it a lot on sites like babynamegenie.com in the baby name polls, but I don't think it's as popular as others. It's a beautiful name!
Our name combo includes my great grandmother's first name Eva.
Eva Charlotte
GOOD LUCK! I say if you love it, go with it. regardless of popularity, it's the kid's name for life and you want to like it!
I think it is a beautiful name. I was on the final list for our LO, but my husband vetoed it at the last minute. Sometimes, I still secretly think of LO as a Charlotte.
It isn't too popular IMO. I only know one little girl named Charlotte.

I really don't think it's too popular. People always say that on this board and it baffles me a little. Just because a lot of people are interested in the name and have it on their short list doesn't mean that it's too popular. I don't know a single person with this name and there are so many other names that outrank it on popularity lists. I think it's 68 on the national list. I completely disregard 2010 popularity lists as they are not actually based on names that babies are given, but rather they're based on searches. I think it's a lovely name and you should go for it!

I definately agree with the others who say it's popular on here, but not so much IRL. We're using it as a middle name because DH didn't like it enough as a first name.
Re: Is Charlotte too popular?
I guess it depends what you consider popular

Here's a current 2010 List, up-to-date for this quarter.
I know one little girl named Charlotte IRL - she's one year old now. I love it and would use it regardless of how popular it is getting.

That is what we are naming our daughter.
We don't know any Charlotte's IRL and although it is gaining popularity on the lists - it is not popular at ALL in our area.

My cousin just had a little girl this spring and named her Charlotte... 'Charlie' for short.
While I said at first I would never call her 'Charlie,' it fits her personality really well, so I've given in.
Other than her, though, I don't know any others. It's a gorgeous name.
