  • I have never PCS'd with an infant but I have done very long road trips when my kids were infants. My advice is to take it slow.  Stop often.  Take your time. Get out and walk around.  Get some fresh air for you and baby.  Feed and change baby while you are stopped and then get back on the on the road.  Be sure to keep some changes of clothes in the front of the car for baby and a few extra shirts for you.  You will probably have some messes.  Diaper blow outs on the road suck, but they happen.  Be prepared.

  • We PCSed when W was 2 months.  It was hard, I'm not going to lie to you.  Stop often, don't plan on doing it all at once.  If you can drive at night, do it.  It helps with their schedule.  Make sure to pack more than enough bottles if you are bottle-feeding, diapers, wipes, clothes, binkies, etc.  Plan to stop every 2 hours or so if you are driving during the day, every 3-4 at night.  Definitely don't do a DITY move, that would be hell.  Other than that, just relax and take the cues from baby.
  • We traveled with DS at 6 weeks.  The normal 6 hour drive turned into 7 since I was breastfeeding and we had our dogs with us.  (I know your drive is going to be much longer than that.)  It wasn't the most pleasant, but we managed.  Baby will likely be sleeping for most of it at that age.  Are you driving separate or in the same vehicle?  We just PCS'd from Fort Worth if you have any questions.  We lived there for 4 years.

  • If you have to drive 2 cars you might want someone to make the drive with you and DH so that you can sit with the baby. We PCS'd when DD was about 8 months and brought my mom along for the drive. She sat with DD while I drove. It was amazing to have her there.
  • We did! I would allow yourselg a lot of time! We had to stop and feed every 2 to 3 hours. C hates riding in the car (has since he was born) and it wasnt fun at all!  Good luck!
