Celebrating parent's retirement?

My mom officially gave notice and her last day of working will be September 3rd! :)

She mentioned making a quiet exit, but I think this occasion still needs to be acknowledged and celebrated.

So what did you do for your parent's retirement?  Did you throw them a party? Go out for a nice dinner?  I think regardless of what we do I will keep it smallish for family and close friends.

    My MIL threw her own retirement party. She was excited to celebrate it. We gave her a gift certificate for a B&B on the coast. I think a dinner or small party would be a great way to celebrate the end of her career. It's definitely an occasion that calls for celebration!

    Yay for your mom!

    My Dad also wanted a "quiet exit", so we just did a small family dinner out.  Actually, I think my sister and mom were out of town, so DH (my fiance at the time) and I took him out to a nice dinner.

    My mom threw my dad's retirement party.  We held it at a restaurant and basically did a little roast.  It was a lot of fun.  We invited his current co-workers, previously retired friends, family, and co-workers from previous companies.

    I created a video slide show of him through his working years - and included a lot of family photos as well. 

     

    Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

    My mom and I threw my dad a retirement party. We had it at a restaurant. My dad had mentioned that he didn't want anything done (he was kind of "forced" into retirement after he was diagnosed with GBM Stage 4 cancer), but he was so happy to spend time with friends he had worked with for over 30 years.
