Traveling with baby - car

So H and I will be traveling for the Christmas holiday.  A normally 14-hour car ride (not sure how long it will actually be now that the baby is here).  We will be splitting the ride up in 2 days.  How long is too long for a baby to be in a car seat?  I'm trying to figure out where to stop for the night on our trip.

  • I wish i could help you. I just got back from Europe but we obviously travelled by airplaine. I imagine that traveline by car is going to be more comfortable. If your DC loves teh carseat i do not think you will have problems with it. Just make sure sure that you have plenty of milk and diapers for him/her. I exclusively bf but i pumped before flying just so we could have another alternative in case i was sleeping or too tired. If you bfeed i suggest you do the same. Bring plenty of toys and lots of patience. I think you will be fine.

  • I think 7 hours a day sounds reasonable. You'll be taking baby out to change/feed every few hours.  GOOD LUCK.  Have you thought about doing the driving at night so maybe he's sleeping while you're on the go?
  • We did 6-9 hours of driving a day for 4 days straight. It was fine.  DD slept almost the entire time.  I would say 6 hours of driving was much more enjoyable for us as parents, though.  You pretty much have to stop when the baby wants to, and the stop will take a while, so add 3 hours of stop time to whatever your driving time will be.
