2nd Trimester

14wks ultrasound questions.

So my next appointment is at 14 weeks (last one was 6 weeks). My doctor told me that it will be an ultrasound and they would be able to let me hear the heartbeat.

My appointment is at 6pm on a Tuesday night. I know I will be running around during the day trying to get a meeting together, and going to the grocery store and staples to get some stuff. I'm envisioning sweaty hot weather outside.

Can you tell me if the 14 weeks appointment requires vaginal probing for the ultrasound? I dont want to go in to the doctors all sweaty and yucky, you know.... LOL. Must be presentable!  I know I wont have time to go home (30 mins away from work), shower, then head out to the doctor (another 30 mins away from work in opposite direction).

Help!! What did you do on your 10weeks-16 weeks appointment?

Re: 14wks ultrasound questions.

  • Since you would be so far along, it should be an external, not vaginal u/s.  Also if you are that far along they might even use a doppler instead of u/s.

2nd ectopic resulted in loss of tube. HSG revealed remaining tube is "severely torqued".

  • I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks and it was trans-abdominal.  Hope that helps.

  • I understand your concern.  However, I really wouldn't worry about it.  Not to be gross, but I just assume my Dr's seen it all, smelled it all, and doesn't really care how sweaty you are down there. If you think it sooo bad, freshen up in the Dr's restroom.  Otherwise relax and enjoy your appointment!

  • Well, being pregnant in the summer I tend to favor a little pack of baby wipes in the purse.  You just never know when butt crack (and other lovely places) will show up & you don't want to feel icky.  Wink
  • I had an u/s done at 13w and it was abdominal.
  • Ditto the babywipes, just in case. They are a lifesaver in those situations!
  • Mine was external at 14 weeks. You can always get some summer's eve wipes to freshen up, they sell them in to go packs.

  • Typically not, unless they have any issues seeing what they need to - good luck!

  • I only had u/s at almost 12 weeks and almost 19 weeks. Both were abdominal, but at the second one they did put the u/s wand up to my vajayjay to check my cervix or something. They didn't actually insert it like earlier ones but it was sitting on the outside. Ditto on the baby or charmin wipes.
