Pregnant after a Loss

Follow-up to Tommee Tippee bottle post

After reading about the anti-colic bottles leaking, and having ONLY anti-colic bottles, I tested one out.  I filled the bottle with water, and tilted it at a presumably correct angle for feeding.  It drips out very, very slowly...less than a drop per second.  Holding it completely vertically, it does flow quite fast, but who feeds a bottle to their baby completely vertically?

I should probably check with the Babies 0-3 board, but I thought there was a way to tell if a bottle was okay for a baby...i.e. by how many drops per second came out of it.

  • Oh darn these are the bottles I have too... keep me posted.

  • You know, some folks say they leak and others love them. We use Playtex Airevent, and again, we like 'em and think they don't leak at all, but the reviews on BRU have a bunch of folks saying they leak.

  • Is it because of the valve do you think? I've heard the same exact thing about the Avent bottles too. I've used the cheap parents choice bottles at work and never had a problem with those babies and reflux and colic (they have other problems but not from feedings).

I'm not sure where this mysterious valve is located.  I opened the bottle, looked at the pieces and don't *see* anything that looks like a valve.  There is a "cap" under the lid (the part that screws on) of the bottle which looks like a pie cut into pieces.  Maybe that's the valve?

    FWIW, I'm keeping the bottles.

  • I have been using them for a week - they don't leak and DD loves them. I actually think they feed a little too fast!

Ok there's a white piece that screws on, a long piece with a blue stripe and a clear ring at the end. If for some reason that clear plastic ring dislodges during a feeding or whatever. It will literally spill out the sides of the bottle (not the nipple). This happened to me several times. I'll heat the bottle, shake it and go to feed and it will spill everywhere. Stick to the regular tt bottles. I think they do an excellent job on their own.

  • I did the same thing last week - bought an Avent bottle and tried to get it to leak.  I couldn't.  I'm sure it's possible, but I've heard so many good things about the bottle (apart from the leaking), so I'm keeping it on the registry.  The anti-colic is important to me since I am going to try a combo of breast/bottle-feeding.
