Introduction and a few questions.

Hello All:

My name is Angela and we are once again on the fertility train. We have an amazing 9 year old daughter and have been trying for our second for almost a year. We went through fertility treatment with our first so although I am not new to the game I have been on the bench for quite a while Smile

We recently went through the required testing and my day 3 FSH level came back at 9.3, and the day 10 came in at 8.9. This was after the Clomid Challenge test, my doctor was rather vague and said that they are normal but a little high for my age (30) and suggested heading straight for IUI or IVF. Do any of you ladies have similiar numbers or any insight as to if this seems a normal course of action? Everything I read seems to state different things. Other than that everything checked out fine, although DH's motility was at 40% which we were told is a little below where they would like to see it.

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Introduction and a few questions.

  • Welcome!  In my case - I have an FSH level of 10.   My RE told me that he prefers it to be below that number, but he's not too concerned until it hits 11.  He wasn't happy about my AMH number with it (which was 1.1) - they want at at least 2.5, and anything below 1 they are concerned about.   Did they tell you your AMH level too?    That's your ovarian egg reserve.

As for the SA - 40% motility isn't too bad.   My DH was right around there as well and they said they look for 50%, but he wasn't too worried about 40%.   We just did our first IUI and post-wash - his motility was actually up around 80%.  There are some vitamins he can take to help with count and motility -  the RE suggested to my DH L-Carnatine, Vitamin C, Zinc and a couple of others.  I know some of the other girls here - their DH's are taking Chinese herbs and some other vitamins.

With my low AMH/high FSH numbers along with DH's not great sperm (his morphology was low), our RE suggested IVF with ICSI.   He's allowing us to try 2 cycles of IUI first to see if they will work, but he's not willing to wait much longer to do IVF because he doesn't want my egg quality to drop even more.

  • Thanks for the insight. My RE did not mention my AMH number, but I did leace a message for the nurse to see what it was. I will be interested to see where it is at.

My DH recently began taking these vitamins as well, hopefully it will help. WOW up to 80% that is great!!

Thanks again for the info, good luck to you.
