Clicky about preventing stretch marks

I've heard some people say that stretch marks are hereditary and some say that you should try to prevent by putting on lotion twice a day. If you went the lotion-for-prevention route, when did you start being really diligent about it? [Poll]

Re: Clicky about preventing stretch marks

  • I've always put lotion on, even before BFP, and am covered in stretch marks.  Sorry, if you're going to get them, you're going to get them.  But a nice lotion helps keep your skin from itching while it stretches, so it's still a good idea.

Right after BFP I freaked and started lotioning like 3 times a day. Then I realized that a lot of women get them anyway, so I have pretty much stopped with the obsessive lotioning of my body parts.

  • I usually use Aveeno as my every-day lotion.  When I'm pregnant I use Palmers Cocoabutter on the 3 B's (boobs, butt, and belly).  With DS I got faaaaaint stretch marks on the undersides of my boobs, but thats it.  Not sure if it was the Palmers or not though...
  • you can't prevent stretch marks but they ITCH...so definitely a nice thick lotion helps with that.  i use a cocoa butter one.  and the hidden secret about strecth marks - lots of people get them AFTER having the baby...i only have 2 and i didn't get them until after.

  • I used all sorts of special creams and lotions the first time around.  BAM... right around 30w I was covered in stretch marks on my tummy.   They are still there.

Ditto this. I lotioned every day, and am covered in strech marks from top to bottom of my tummy. Every woman in my family got them, so I was doomed anyway.

But I do remember my belly was really itchy when it was stretching, so lotion is always a plus.
