My DH and his family are freaked out because of the Whooping Cough. I think they have been watching the news way too much and that the news like the H1N1 has made it out to be more than it is. DH asked the doctor yesterday and that is exactly what they said. She said It's a personal choice.
My point is I really don't like the idea of getting injected with anything while I'm pregnant. Even though they say It's safe, I doubt they do tests on pregnant women to find out if there are any affects. I'm just always nervous because they always say things are safe until years later they find out otherwise.
I'm home with my daughter who has already had the vaccine. So I told my DH if anyone should get it, it should be him. He works with the public. When I get sick It's usually from DH or DD.
Re: Whooping Cough Vaccine for pregnant women?
My regular dr. advised me to not get any vaccinations while pregnant, though I haven't talked about it with my OB yet.
Side note: I hate the whooping cough commercial they play all the time on TLC. The sound of that baby coughing is so awful I mute it when it comes on
Like the PP, I got it before I became pregnant when I received my tetanus booster.
In states where Whooping cough is a concern I believe getting the vaccine is a good idea. Esp since we will all have our children during the winter months when coughing viruses are on the rise (people stay inside and share more germs)
I am surprise at your post comment about the news. Since you are in CA, there is a BIG outbreak.
The state recorded about 1,500 cases through July 13 - a fivefold increase over the same period last year. Six infants have died in the recent outbreak.
That being said, yes i will get vaccine. DH went to the dr and he got one since we have DS at home.
Yes its personal choice. Its up to the person to decide what is best for them.
That is the WORST commercial ever! It made me cry the other day (not that that is saying a whole lot right now...)
If my OB brings it up and recommends it, I will do it. Otherwise, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind.
And yes, that commercial is AWFUL.
I despise that commercial. But not because it makes me sad - more like very annoyed. The tone of it is like you are a horrible person if you dare to hold your baby and don't get the vaccine.
