Length of time in swing

We put LO in his swing around 7:30 tonight b/c he wouldn't stay asleep in his bassinet and needed to be free to make dinner.  It's now 9:00 pm and he's still asleep.  Is it ok to leave him in the swing until he wakes up?  Or should I wake him up/move him?  I'm not sure if it's safe/good parenting/etc. to leave him in a swing.  Are there suggested timeframes for this?

TIA!

  • Make sure he is strapped in and enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts! ;)

  • At 2 weeks, I was taking sleep any way I could get it.  If it meant the swing I was curled up on the couch sleeping until she woke.  One night we even brought it into our room because it was working wonders.  I don't think there is a time frame I believe it is based on your personal feelings and opinions.  My LO did floortime and time with my DH and I that I didn't feel bad for putting her in the swing for some time.

  • I was old swing, carseat...whatever works for however long for the first 2 months when they need to stretch out more.

  • My LO has been fighting sleep and screaming for two hours. She is now asleep in the swing and will stay there. :)
