eBay or Divine Consign? Which brings better $$?

I have a LOT of kids clothes (lots of great quality boys Gymboree, Polo, Janie & Jack, etc size 6m - 2T and lots of Hanna Anderson, Le Top, Gymboree, Lelli Kelly etc for girls size 2T and 3T).  Plus, I have an entire Babylicious boys crib bedding set in great (like new) condition... I have had luck selling things on eBay in the past, but I dread the work involved of taking the photos, uploading them and describing everything and then having to wait around to receive payment when I really just want to get rid of it and make money in the process so I can get some new things for the kids.

I have never even BEEN to Divine Consign or Just Between Friends, so I don't even know what sells there, or how it works, or what the price range is...

So, my questions are....

-Is the money you make on eBay comparable to what you'd make at DC/JBF?  If not, which is more or less?

-How much work goes into selling stuff at one of the consignment sales?

-Do you have better luck selling on eBay or at a consignment sale?

-What happens to your stuff at the consignment sale if you don't sell it??

-How quickly do you get your money and what is the shared break between DC and you?

Re: eBay or Divine Consign? Which brings better $$?

  • First where are you located? I can save you tons of trouble buying your 2T - 3T stuff. Especially your Lelli Kelly's :)

    To answer your questions though:

-Is the money you make on eBay comparable to what you'd make at DC/JBF?  If not, which is more or less?  You will make much more off of Ebay

-How much work goes into selling stuff at one of the consignment sales?

It is sort of a beating. I have done it twice now and I do have to say it is time consuming uploading the info and then hanging and tagging the clothes. Of course my issue could be that I always wait until the last minute to do it all.

-Do you have better luck selling on eBay or at a consignment sale?

Never sold on ebay so can't answer that, but at the first sale I did I sold everything and the last sale I sold about 95%.

-What happens to your stuff at the consignment sale if you don't sell it??

You can either pick it up or donate.

-How quickly do you get your money and what is the shared break between DC and you?

I think it takes about a week to get your check in the mail. You make 70%, but you also have to pay a $10 consignor fee if you don't attend the seminar.

  • At Just Between Friends there is a $10 consignor fee.  Plus, you make 65% (70% if you volunteer).  It's a lot of work to enter everything in to make the tags and then you have to tag it all.  Drop off can be a hassle too.  If you have a ton of name brand, boutique stuff then you could make a decent amount of money, but from what I hear eBay is easier and you can make a ton more money that way.  Also, there's eBay Classifieds too.  Similar to Craig's List, but a lot safer, it eliminates spam and it's local to your area.  I've got some things listed up on there until I go to Just Between Friends if it doesn't sell.

Thanks for posting the eBay classifies info. I have some stuff listed on craigslist, but also just put one eBay classifieds.  I have more to add still. Hopefully they will sell.

  • Oh stink, I need at least 25's. My not even 2 year old has huge feet!!!
  • Thanks for all of the input - I think I'll just stick with eBay, since I know it works.  :)

  • can you post a link or PM me the link to your eBay stuff once you get it up?
  • Yes!  I'm hoping to put some stuff up in the next few days, and then more later.
