Ultrasounds

How is it that so many of you have been able to get US already? With my first pregnancy they only ever offered one at 20 weeks. After that, they thought there was problems so had a few Level 2 US. Everything turned out fine.

I am 5weeks 2 days and they wont even see me until 10-12 weeks.

Re: Ultrasounds

  • Hi! I am 8 weeks and my doctor will not see me until I am 10 weeks also, and that is for medical paperwork. Then we will get another appoinntment to measure and exam and then if it does not measure up it we would get one but otherwise just at 20 weeks. I was really hoping for one sooer to reasssure that everything is okay!

  • A lot of ladies who have had problems before in their pregnancy and with a RE will be montiored more.

My doctor will do my first ultrasound and check for heartbeat at 10 weeks.  This is also the first time I will be seeing her since my BFP.

  • I've been seeing an RE for IF issues, so they end up monitoring you more closely when you actually do get pregnant.  It's both a blessing and a curse. It's awesome to get reassured through blood work and early u/s, but it can also be incredibly nerve wracking waiting for that phone call or for that next u/s and hoping you see more of the baby the next time around.

No worries, what you're doing is normal!

  • I had IF issues and am seeing an RE. We had to go through IVM to get pregnant and are being closely monitored. As many of the women on here say, "It is the one perk to IF". Stick out tongue

  • I am just with an OB and I will have about 6+ u/s, but that is because I am high risk.

As long as everything looks fine and healthy the 20 week u/s should be the only one you absolutely need. Though most doctors now do an early u/s to date the pregnancy since you get better measurements early on.

  • i skipped going to my general practioner to confirm the pregnancy and just scheduled directly with the OBGYN. they had me come in at 6w1d and did an ultrasound. i wasn't expecting it, but she did a full exam, pap, and ultrasound. i suppose because i was a new patient? but i think it just depends on the doctors preferences for ultrasounds (if there are no high risks)

  • Ditto pp.  We had to do IVF to get pregnant so I will be very closely monitored by my RE until week 12 when I can hopefully move onto an OB or MFM/Peri.

  • I agree with the others that it's probably because of IVF, IUI, or other issues.  With my first, I had ultrasounds every 2 weeks for the first trimester because my progesterone level was very low.  After that, I had one at around 20 weeks where they checked many things and then I believe one at 36 weeks.

This time, my body is working better and I've had no issues. I initially had blood drawn to check my progesterone (right after I called to tell the office was pregnant).  Today was my first appointment.  I met with the doc, she answered my questions, did a pap, and drew blood to check things like blood cell count, HPV, etc.  I was also told that my next appointment at 10 weeks she would check for the heartbeat with the doppler, but if she couldn't hear it, I would get an ultrasound.  I probably won't have an ultrasound until around 20 weeks if everything appears healthy.

  • My Ob's office mentioned u/s when I sheduled for my appointment which will be at about 6 weeks.  I'm high risk though so I'm sure it's just to make sure it's all ok.

  • I always got an early ultrasound b/c my periods were so wacko. They always wanted to see how far along I really was. If you give them any hint that you're not 100% sure when you got pregnant, they are going to yank you in there and do an u/s right away.
  • Thanks ladies!

As much as I would love to have an u/s now....i have no reason to believe that I am high risk. I am over 35 so that could raise a flag but the scheduler at the clinic never mentioned a thing. My OB is out on maternity leave right now anyway.

It took us over 16 months to get pg but we had not turned to any other forms of help. I had been charting my temps for quite some time, so honestly, I pretty much know the exact day I got pregnant. We were just beginning to talk about having some tests run when I got my BFP.

I will pray that everything is normal and fine and I will see my OB in 3 1/2 weeks. Oh seriously...can I wait that long?

  • I only had one because I was in the ER.
  • I have no idea why the schedule one for me so early. My first one will be next Monday and I'll only be 7 weeks. I'm not complaining though because I am looking forward to it. I won't even have my first appointment with them until August 3rd so I thought it was a little weird. Oh well. Hopefully everything will be good.
  • I'm only (based on my LMP) 7 weeks and 5 days, but I had an ultrasound at 4 weeks and 3 days when my OB had me come in to see him due to abdominal and pelvic pain just to confirm that there was a gestational sac visible in my uterus, and he had me return last Wednesday to try and date the pregnancy to see if my due date needs to be adjusted. He typically sees patients at 7 weeks. I'm returning to see him on Monday because he couldn't detect a fetal heart tone on Wednesday, so we're hoping for good news then.

If it weren't for the pain I had early on, I would have only had the one ultrasound.
