Who's had one? What happened at it?
I was confused by the instructions at my doctor's office so I just called there to find out where I need to go. They said that I have to register at admissions prior to going up to the office. (It's not the office I go to. It's connected to the hospital and it's where they do u/s, gentic testing, etc.) Why would I have to register in the hospital admissions first? Does that sound right? I never had to register for any of the u/s that I had there. It's making me nervous.
Do you think that its fine that I'm planning to go by myself? I was under the impression that this was no big deal and that they just had to make sure the baby was OK. I mean my OB already scheduled the induction for Tuesday night.
Re: Non Stress Test
I had one and went by myself and I had to register at my hospital too...At my hospital it is there way of keeping track how many times I have been there during my pregnancy etc...
The NST was a piece of cake, first they took me back and gave me an U/S to check the babies fluid etc...than I went to a hospital bed in the maternity ward, where they hooked me up to a couple of monitors.
The nurse told me to relax and watch tv or read a book, and that they are just monitoring my contractions (that I never felt) with the babies heart rate....She said it takes between an hour and 2 hours depending on how the baby cooperates...
So I sat back and relaxed and 20 mins later a nurse came in and said they got all the info they needed, and all was well and they sent me on my way....
You will be totally fine by yourself, and my induction was already scheduled as well....
ETA: think of it as an extra chance to hear baby C's heart beat before the grand arrival. I would also bring your bag in the car just in case they decide to do your induction then.

I am all too familiar withthe NST. I had them done twice a week for the last 6 or so weeks of my pregnancy. You sit in a big chair with your feet up and they put 2 straps around your belly. One to measure contractions and the other for the baby's heart rate. If I remember correctly, they are looking for the baby's reaction (heart rate) in response to your contractions. Sometimes it was pretty quick, other times not so much. I think the times when it was slower are the times that I wasn't contracting as much. The second part of the appointment was the U/S. In my case they were really monitoring my fluid. (The reason for me to be there in the first place.)
As PP said, bring your bag just in case, but also bring a book or magazine to read - it can be pretty boring.
Not sure about the registration part - I had already been to L&D before I started these appointments.
I had one done at my ob appt on Tuesday. Pretty much they took me into one of the l&d rooms (since it is a small hospital) and had me on the bed and straped two belts on, one for the contractions, one for the heart beat. I got asked if the LO was moving at the time, I said no, so she propped up my left hip and gave me ice cold water to help make LO one. She said if it didnt help she would give me juice next.
I had to be on there for 20 minutes and when I felt LO kick/move I hit the button. They looked for 2 movements and that the heart rate goes up with the movements. I guess they just wanna make sure that the baby moves when there is spikes in the heart rate. I missed a few movements, but overall the baby is healthy and happy in there.
I was stressed since I rarely feel it move, but I think the belt/monitor pushing on it's home made it push back.
Good Luck with it!
