January 2011 Moms

baby shower

I hear all this talk about when people's baby showers are.  Does anyone else have no clue when their baby shower is?  No one has mentioned anything to me about having one and I'm beginning to think it isn't going to happen.  I'm sure it's probably the hormones getting me a bit down but I would be super bummed if I didn't have a shower.  Surely I am not the only one out there who hasn't heard any news on this topic??

Re: baby shower

  • Nope, I've got nothing. I'm assuming since everyone just attended my bridal shower in January they may be over me LOL

  • I think it's probably because we're not due until January.  I figure mine will be the  beginning of December just to avoid the holidays.  I'm sure people will start planing at the end of summer or early fall.
  • Honestly I doubt I'll have one as my family is nowhere near me, but if I was going to have one I think I'd rather have it after the baby gets here.

  • Don't worry about it...some of our friends are OCD planners (like mine). Otherwise I wouldn't expect any of our baby showers to happen until fall so any talk about that now would be really early.

  • I didn't start planning my sisters until late April and hers was in June. So, I expect she'll get around to it in October. This is really early to be planning a December event.

This. Except I never thought about doing something after. I would need a lot of stuff before the baby is born but there is plenty that could wait until after. Good idea

  • Don't worry, mine family shower date was set due to when my sister would be in town which is thanksgiving weekend.  Otherwise I would not know yet either

  • I am right there with you!  I thought at least my best friend would say "i'm going to throw your shower" lol but NOTHING.  i think whenever someone steps if, hoping they will, i'd prefer it to be in OCT just because of all the holidays through the winter.

  • i know my sister is planning one for me, but i don't know any details about where or when it'll be.  i pretty much had to plan my own bridal shower since my bridesmaids were all in college/high school and couldn't or couldn't be bothered, i'm not sure which. i decided this time i just want to be surprised.  i've never had a surprise party or party thrown for me, so i'm super excited for it!

  • I'm not getting one.  I live too far away from anyone that would host one and anyone that would attend.  A friend that lives across the country wants to figure out a way to do one and its really nice that she's racking her brain, but I'm ok with not having one.  As long as everyone sends me some cash Wink
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • In my family, at least with my cousins, they had their baby showers when they were 7 months into their pregnancy. I figure I'll follow that guideline, too, since it would have to be before the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

  • Luckily I have a friend that lives 2 states away and already called dibs on throwing my shower (I might not have had one otherwise). I live across the country from my family, and don't have a lot of close friends that I would expect something like that from. Also luckily she does wedding photography so she has to plan ahead for a weekend she doesn't already have a wedding so my options are the 23rd of October (I'll be 28 weeks) or the 20th of Nov (I'll be 32 weeks). I'm leaning towards October since I don't want to compete with Thanksgiving...I guess we'll see. But I wouldn't worry about it, it is super early still, and if you live somewhat near family I doubt they'll let you go without a shower. :)
  • I agree that it is too early to worry about it just yet.

My mom is throwing my baby shower and we decided to do it before the holidays so I am less stressed. My due date is 1/1/11, and my shower will be on November 7.

  • couple people have mentioned wanting to throw one for me but we have not discussed it further.  I am guessing probably October ish.  I don't want to get too close to the holidays because people are already so busy!
  • The only reason I know it will be Thanksgiving weekend is, it is the only weekend my sister will be within 2 hours of me.  She asked me if the holiday weekend would be ok with me, and I am fine with it (as long as my sister is there, I don't care when it is!)

  • Mine is Oct 30th...I know this b/c we had to find a date since we seem to be booked for Nov with a wedding, a 1st birthday party and then my sister in law will be away and then it's Thanksgiving and we wanted it before then.

They had too set the date b/c to book the hall and being that it's Halloween weekend they had to do it asap to avoid other parties getting booked

  • Everyone in my family is already fighting about my shower. My MIL with my family and my sister and mother with each other. It is infuriating. I don't want to hear another word from anyone about a shower until everyone can act like big girls! Not that I am not appreciative but I can't stand the fighting and get caught in the middle.
  • I'd say odds of my getting one are about 50/50.

My family lives 1500 miles away and my husband's family just isn't the thoughtful shower-throwing type.  Maybe they'll do a little something for me at work, but then again, maybe not.  It's up to the manager to decide, and my manager has been attempting to fire me for the past year.  She didn't even say "congratulations" regarding my wedding.  So I'm not holding my breath.

A friend of ours offered to throw one.  She also offered to cohost my bridal shower with my MoH when we got married, but never brought it up again after that (nor did she attend the one that my MoH threw).  She means well, but is very flaky.

Now that I'm "out" at work, people keep asking when my shower will be.  I simply tell them that I don't know if anyone is hosting one, and I politely change the subject.  They'll get the idea, and if someone wants to throw one, they will.

I know that I don't "deserve" one just by virtue of being pregnant.  No one is entitled to one.  Etc etc.  Still, I will secretly, quietly be very sad if no one throws one.  Would never say ANYTHING to anyone IRL about this.  Just being honest, even if it makes me a brat.

  • My sister in-law & MIL have offered to throw me one in November before all the holiday madness starts, but no official date or anything else has been mentioned (this one will be mostly for DH family).  We live 5 hours away from my family & most of my friends, so I was kind of hoping that someone from back home would offer to throw me one there, but so far no one has mentioned it.

  • The one from my parents will be October 23rd.  Since I live 3 hours away from my parents, and 2 hours away from my in laws, we have  alot of coordination.  Some of my friends are almost 5 hours away from my parents.

Mom asked me to pick a date in October that worked for me so she could book the place to have it (they book up quickly, and my parents' house is too small to have it there).  She chose October so that it's before the bad weather could really hit, before Thanksgiving and the holidays.  I told her I didn't want to be driving once there was a threat of ice/snow in November.

MIL will be told the same thing.
