I am not due till January 4th but I am seeing all of these questions about collecting disability and family bonding leave so i figured i would start asking my questions now.
I am a teacher and will be taking maternity leave from January until September. I will get paid for 40 sick days (8 weeks) for maternity leave. My questions is is everyone entitled to disability and the family bonding leave? I know this wouldn't happen until after i have been paid my 40 days---but I don't really know how any of this works (this is my first baby) and i am just trying to figure out what we are actually entitled to ahead of time. Any information that anyone could give me would be great and really appreciated. TIA!
Re: Disability and Family Bonding Leave
I am due in a few weeks and am also a teacher. From what I gather, first you use your sick days, then 12 weeks Federal Leave (no pay, benefits) then 12 weeks NJ Leave (Family Bonding) 6 weeks is paid.
I don't know if you can skip the Federal and go right to NJ leave -- I don't think you can. I never looked into it b/c I knew I wanted to take the Federal Leave for more time.
Do you pay into disability as well? If you do, that would be separate pay -- 6 weeks. I pay into Prudential through the NJEA.
Here's some info for the NJ Leave
