Child Care VENT

I am so fortunate to have family (my aunt and my mom) who love LO watch her while I am at work, but it really upsets me when they give LO a bottle to calm her down, get her to go to sleep etc. I nursed DD at 11:30 before I went to work. She ate really well. I got a text message from my Aunt at around 12:30-1ish that DD wouldn't go to sleep (she didn't take her morning nap either) so she eventually gave her a bottle. I know she couldn't have been hungry and was just comfort sucking and giving these random bottles messes up my already depleting supply. I know it shouldn't bother me this much, but they are always trying to give DD extra bottles when she is a little fussy, etc. She is def. not starving and thriving in the 95% for weight and height. Just bcause she fusses or is haivng trouble taking a nap does not mean she needs a bottle. UGH! Vent over

  • I agree. My DCP seems to think like this also. Drop LO off at 8:00 and she asks what time he last had a bottle. I say 7:00 she says, well he ready for a bottle then. WTH. I had to get that straight quick.

  • DH does the same thing...but I just kinda suck it up.  DS usually takes a 5 oz bottle.  When he gets to the end he often fusses for a second but if you give him his binky he settles right down.  DH will make him another bottle.  Or an hour after he eats if he's fussing he'll make him another bottle.

  • Try leaving just enough for her?  Label the bottles with the time they are to be given and they should realize that when they're out they're out.  Do you use a binky?  Maybe have them use that more often.
  • My mother does this. Everything is "he's hungry" and follows with a bottle. I to have a depleting supply and it was killing me. I talked to her about his signs of hunger, how to test it, what to do before giving a bottle and noted times he typically eats. This has worked out extremely well.

Funny note: My mom said DS was hungry the other day and she was telling him that he had to wait. It was only an hour after his feeding, so he was not really hungry. She showed him the notepad and told him that he has to follow this. She then gave him a pen and told him to write a not to mommy about is schedule. DS took the pen and started to scribble all over the schedule. My mom took that as he was really, really hungry. LOL

  • My mother-in-law watches the baby and my sister-in-law lives next door and her daughter who is 13 years old comes over and helps, and the 13 year old does this and it upsets MIL and myself, but we don't say anything to her.
