Trying to Get Pregnant

Is this silly?

I POAS at 11DPO only to get a BFN.  I feel very discouraged even though I haven't reached 14DPO to test accurately.  Is it common to get a BFN and then a BFP later on? I just can't stop thinking about it.  I never get any symptoms for AF and I have none now.  I really want to keep positive for this cycle, any encouraging thoughts?!

Re: Is this silly?

  • If you are PG and test early it's common to get a - before a +, which is why it's important to wait.

You aren't totally out until you get your period. Good luck.

  • Are you charting? How do you know what dpo you are? I have heard of people getting negatives before positives, especially if you test to early. Ask on the first tri, they would know better than us. Good luck!!

  • good suggestion.  I did OPK for three cycles and just found out about temping a few weeks ago when it was too late.  i'll start on CD1 if there is another cycle ahead of me...

One time I got a BFN at 13 DPO only to have FF move my crosshairs and find out that I was really 7 DPO so I understand the feeling. I got a BFP later that cycle.

It is possible to have a BFN at 11 dpo and still get a BFP later on. You just won't know until you get there. Good Luck.

  • would you say that temping is more accurate than OPK for finding out when you ovulate?

Yes - OPKs will tell you when there is an LH surge, but they don't tell you for SURE that you've ovulated.  A (sustained) rise in temperature will confirm that you actually ovulated.  Many of us use both, along with checking cervical mucus (CM).
