We are going to the GI today and I have a feeling this may be the route we are going. DS has been mostly EBF with some Alimentum as a trial due to reflux and a milk protein allergy. He spits up more on the formula than BM but it keeps getting worse and he's maxed on Zantac. Have any of your LO's been on one of these formula's? I want to keep BFing but I have cut all dairy and soy out for months and the poor guy isn't gaining any weight (he's 12lbs at 6 months) and doesn't seem much better

Asher is on Neocate. But hes on it for an Accute Multiple Protien Allergy. I have a feeling that before they try Neocate that they would ask to to stop nursing and try just Alimentum. They make you go through all sorts of hoops before they pescribe Neocate. Asher was vomitting and pooping blood before they even considered it and then he was hospitalized for anaphylaxis...which finally led us to a full switch over.
We love to Neocate, but he still spits....reflux can still exist without the allergy, so they could still happen. The nice part about the formula is that he has started to gain weight on it. The sad part is that with AMPA, there is a good chance that he'll be on Neocate until hes 5 or 6 years old.
Have you thought about switching to a PPI like Prevacid? That may be more effective than the Zantac - we never saw results on it. Has your dr asked to do a pH probe? That would see if the reflux is not being controlled by the meds. My LO is on Elecare due to MSPI, but she wasn't switched to that until after we got minimal results on Prevacid. BM is really what is best for your LO, especially if he has reflux. I know that our dr's tried everything possible before switching my LO off of BM. Good luck!!
The bloody stools stopped when I eliminated dairy and soy but reflux has been worse with formula feedings even when thickened with rice. I am sure they will change the med too but I don't think alimentum is working as he vomits up the entire bottle (not the case with bm and we don't thicken)

We had that issue on Alimentum as well. Why can't you exclusively nurse? i had to stop nursing Asher because none of the things I cut out of my diet made any difference....which makes sense to me now.... I wouldn't have been able to eat anything!
Um I can't really pump enough anymore and hrs bot gaining weight.
