Ella got her varicella vax on 7/6. Yesterday, several bug-bite-looking spots showed up on her trunk and a couple on her arms. Everything I've read says that very rarely, a child will break out in a mild and minimally contagious chicken pox rash after the vaccine with 7-21 days. Yesterday was day 15.
Has this happened to anyone?
Perfect timing given we're leaving tonight for our trip. What are the chances that our child would get chicken pox the day before a vaca, just as her Mama did a day into a family vaca in 1988?
Oh and did I mention AF started today? Great. 14 hours in a car with cramps. Sweet.
Re: talk to me about chicken pox.
OHHH I'm sorry. I hope it's not chicken pox. I never had them and got the vaccine a while back.
Boo to AF showing up right before your trip to the shore!
Good luck! I'll be thinking about you!
I hope not, too (mostly because I don't want day care to send her home today - neither Brian nor I can really afford to miss today!)...but from what I understand, even if it IS, it's likely to be a mild case.
The good news is that I didn't see any new spots when I got her dressed this morning, which means it's not spreading rapidly if at all.

I am one of the few people on the plant who has had Chicken Pox three times!?! My mom is a kindergarten teacher and she kept bringing germs home to me, lols. Each time, it was just like you're describing, a very mild case. Mostly I was just cranky for a couple of days with a low grade fever and maybe 5 spots. Of course back then we didn't have the vacc.
My thought is that if she hasn't broken completely out today, you're seeing all you will see. I certainly hope so!!! Good luck!!!
That gives me hope!
This would explain her fever and crankiness earlier in the week that led me to suspect a repeat ear infection. It's all making sense now!
oh no! (both to cramps & chicken pox)
I remember them being really annoying, but i didn't feel poorly when i had them (i was 7). ?Has everyone traveling with you had them?
Oh no! (times 2) I got them in 2nd grade, I remember being really itchy and I was out of school for almost a whole week. When I went back to school there were only like 4 kids left in my class.
My MIL told me incubation usually takes 14 days, so she's probably exposed all the daycare kids who are going to get it. As exciting as is sounds to have a cranky kid on vacation, at least you are planning to be off.
God I hope so! Brian and I both had them but I have no idea about the others. Crap.
