NBR - Recommend your 3 row car, please.

Over the winter (ugh, who wants to think about that now, I know!), DH & I are going to be looking for a different vehicle.  I currently drive a Honda Fit & it's very small.  We want a 3 row vehicle, but not a van.  Probably an SUV of some type.  We're looking for used, so if it's a brand new concept, it will probably be out of our price range.  Any ideas, models you love?  I will be doing my own research, too, but just wanted ideas from moms who know!  Thanks!

I have a 2008 Nissan Armada. It has 3 row seats and I love it.  It is a bit of a gas hog.  But it has tons of room and it's pretty too :)

  • I have a Cadillac Srx. Love it! Its easy to get the kids in and out and super comfy. Side air bags all the way back
  • We have a GMC Envoy (XLT I believe?) - it is the one with the 3rd row and we love it. It is the same size as DHs pick up truck that we traded in but we have the extra row of seats - a lot of cargo room in the back (when the 3rd row is folded down especially) and we can still tow with it if needed. It is loaded with leather seats too - and used, and we got it for a decent price. We haven't had to use the 3rd row too much yet but it will come in handy in a couple of years if we still have it!

  • We have an (older) suburban and love it.  We also have 2 dogs and the kid and have trailers and things we need to tow with it.  It may be too much vehicle for some tho.  Tahoe's are great too.

  • We have a Tahoe and love it!

This is what I'm thinking about buying. I have done much research and I like this.

  • My BIL has a Mazda CX-9, which has three row seating.  Not huge, but much cheaper than a lot of other options out there.

I drive a Fit as well, and I'm fine with it for now, but will be concerned once we add kid #2 to the mix.

You're right, the Fit is ok now.  I drive 70 miles round trip for work every day, so by the time the LO#2 comes around, it will have devalued so much, we don't want to wait that long. I'll look into the Mazda, too!

We're also looking into possibly getting an SUV with a 3rd row option... we are seriously thinking about a Honda Pilot. Any thoughts/experiences on those??

  • GMC Acadia.  Love it.

And whatever you get, make sure it has the captains chairs in the 2nd row. Makes getting all the way to the back much easier.  Also, make sure the 3rd row seats can be pushed down individually (although I'm sure they all can do that).

    We have a 2004 Tahoe. It's amazing!

This is a test. This is only a test.

Love my 2009 Pilot. It's my apartment on wheels when we're out.  I can haul so much stuff!  It gets decent gas mileage for an SUV.  (About 17mpg in the city and I have a 4WD).  Love love love!

  • I had an Acura MDX.  It had a blind spot that I hated (otherwise liked the car).  The new model with the tech package now has BLIS, so it should help.  Decent gas mileage.

Now I have a Volvo XC 90.  I really like it.

  • I just bought a Toyota Rav4 with the 3rd row option.  Love it.  Also looked at the Toyota Highlander which is bigger but I didn't like how it drove in comparison to the Rav4.
  • We have a Pacifica now and it has plenty of room with the 3rd row folded down, but there's no way it will work when we have 3 kids with all the crap you have to carry for long trips (i.e. a stroller) and we need that 3rd row of seats.  We've done a lot of research lately and I think we're going to end up going the mini-van route and get a Sienna.  We need the all-wheel drive here in CT and it just looks like it would have the most space for us and be easier for me to get from the front seat to the back seat if need be, while we're moving.  My in-laws have an Expedition and like it when it isn't in the shop, but I really don't want a vehicle that big.

  • I love my pilot, but be careful if you want to use the 3rd row.  If you have the 3rd row up there is basically no storage space for anything like strollers.  I have the 3rd row down and put my strollers back there instead.  But overall the car is wonderful, would get another one in a heartbeat.
  • We have a Toyota Sequoia and I LOVE it!  Before that I had a Lexus LX which I also loved, but it was a 2003... and now (even used) they are ridiculously expensive.
