I'm trying to figure out how much to give, but need some advice. My DS is 5 1/2 months old and we started cereal about 2 weeks ago. He did really good and I thought he was ready to start veggies....but after a few days, I'm questioning it. He already seems to be constipated (he's eBF). For those who are feeding solids, do you only do cereal and how many times a day. I want to be sure I'm not over feeding him. For those who do more solids, how much does DC get a day.
Re: Those doing solids/cereal now....
Here in NZ we're advised by our plunket nurses (who are baby specialists) to introduce one meal. Build up to 1/4 cup. Once LO is eating 1/4c then you can add another meal.
That initially it's about introducing tastes and checking for allergies. I've been trying a new food every 2 - 3 days.
LO built up to 2 meals really quickly. Now her day goes:
7am BF
7.40 Solid (usually cereal and fruit)
10.30am BF
2.30pm BF
6pm BF
6.30pm Solid (some kind of vege)
We're told to always offer milk first at this stage. I think it swaps to solid first at around 9 mths.
I've also reads that cereal/rice can constipate LOs and that fruit and vege are good to avoid this.
Anyway, I'm following what I've been told because I don't know any better :-)
Good luck.
