Breastfeeding

I'm done. [for those that have 'dried up'] ..

Well i've been pumping for the last 4 months ; 8x a day - down to 6 then tried to up my pumps to 10x a day to increase supply .. but looks like 'the well's gone dry' - and now thanks to the cost of formula so is my savings!
I shouldn't complain - there's really no difference in cost since we were renting a hospital grade pump ; but LO has already gone through 3 cans of formula - in two weeks = $70 and i was mixing BM with Formula
.. diapers arnt even that expensive!
OH WELL. he must eat ; i dont care how he gets the nutrition as long as he does.
The frist few nights we're hard, as stupid as it sounds i actually miss pumping for him. I tried so god damn harrd. UGH!

But now i'm wondering how long does it take to 'dry up' - Its been about 45hours..since i've last pumped - and i'm not overly engorged .. a little ''heavy''but nothing that uncomfortable.

ADvice? Thanks!

  • Well, I pumped for five months 'round the clock (waking up every two to three hours) until I was getting only one bottle's worth over an entire day of pumping. (Baby never learned to latch correctly, even with consultant help.)  I dried up completely within a week, I'd say.

  • For the past couple weeks i have been drying up!  I EP and am going to stop. Its like my supply just keeps getting less and less.  Wonder why this happens to some women?

  • This sums it up  - my thoughts are if after almost 48 hours i'm not completely engorged ..there can't be that much in there then =[
I also woke up during the night to pump ; when LO was in the hospital i woke every 2-3hours ; and once he came home i pumped - to feed.
He never latched ; but i wanted to give him BM. Geuss i'll give it a few more days and see where i'm at.

    Thanks!

  • I BF for 9 months (nursing and pumping) and I gradually let it go so by the time I completely stopped pumping for 24hours, I wasn't engorged at all. It has been a month and I can still squeeze a little milk out but my boobs feel back to normal. The heaviness will eventually get less and less until it dissapates completely. Sometimes I do miss it, but to be completely honest, i'm happy to have my "freedom" back. I was starting to resent the pump. I wanted to go for a year for my son but my supply was starting to decline with work and I was struggling so I made the decision to stop and it really was the best decision for me.
