New Guidelines for Repeat C-Sections

*Stolen from my local board*

Very interesting article on C-sections and VBACS. I am actually looking forward to my planned c-section next time around. Big Smile

  • Thanks.  I'm hoping for a vaginal birth.  For some reason I still get upset that I ended with a c-section.  She was big though (9 lbs 11 oz). I couldn't imagine pushing that out! :)

Same here. I physically CANNOT give birth due to, ahem, size restrictions among other reasons, so YAY for those that choose a VBAC, but YAY for me choosing to just have a planned C next time around.

I hated that I had to have a c/s and felt like my body failed me. I seriously struggled with it for a long time. I have all ready asked my dr about having a VBAC next time. He didn't seem to optimistic (the only reason I had a c/s is b/c she turned face up in the birth canal and got stuck) and it might really make me look for another dr who is more likely to let me try to deliver on my own.

I cried for weeks about it.  I'm sure it was PPD, but I still wish I could have done it.  I think you should talk to a different doctor and find one that will let you at least try.  I've talked to mine about it, he's fine with my decision. I think next time I'll labor at home a lot longer (I was in labor 28 1/2 hours when the contractions started, water broke 12 hours before I had my c-section).

  • Thank you so much for sharing!  I thought I wanted a planned c/s next time around to ensure I'd see my child born (I was knocked out) but thinking about it, I want the VBAC.  I already know it's going to be a challenge finding a doc/hospital around here to go with me, hopefully this will change by the time I'm looking to have my 2nd.

good luck to all, whatever you choose!

  • If we decide to have another, I'm also looking forward to a repeat c-section.  I had such a terrible birth experience I cringe at the though of trying to labor again and it is one reason I might be one and done. I really don't want to ever repeat what I went though and my recovery wasn't that bad at all.

I'm already looking for a new Dr. that is pro-VBAC.  I hate that I had to have a csection.

Same here. I would like to give birth vaginally next time, that is if my doctor performs VBACS.

What?! Your dr should have no problem with you attemtpting a VBAC if that is the only reason you had a c/s.

I, on the other hand, am choosing c/s because my tailbone is inappropraitely placed after breaking it several years ago. I will take the certainty of healing from a c/s over the possibility of suffering due to the broken tailbone all over again.

  • I can't decide what to do. My labor was long, painful and exhausting. But, my recovery really sucked, and I still have a hard time accepting my c-section sometimes. I will probably do a repeat c b/c the reason I had one this time had to do with my anatomy.

My whole birth was wild, out of control process. We went in for a wellness check and u/s and my fluid levels were low. They sent me to the hospital for a non-stress test (my a$$ it sure stressed me out!), set an induction for the next day, and oh yeah- she might be in NICU b/c she is measuring small. I cried and cried and of course they decided to keep me once I got to the hospital. I started the induction, my epi failed, I got to 6 cm and was shaking like a crazy woman from my epi, so I would have agreed to anything at that point. I hate how out of control everything felt, but I am so grateful to have a healthy, beautiful baby girl. My dr says I won't be a candidate for a VBAC b/c she was small and I delivered early (it was determined my placenta stopped working), but at the time of her birth there was no other reason than her turning face up  for me to have a c/s. I really fail to see how her turning face up in the birth canal would have any impact on future deliveries.
