Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Late bedtime question

So, it always works out where my 6 week LO's evening feeding times wind up around 8pm and then around 11pm. She has been sleeping from 11:30-6am which is great! She eats about every 3-4 hours during the day.

My question is: should I be putting her down after her 8 o'clock feeding instead of 11? I read that early to bed, late to rise...but im scared to put her down that early fearing I will be getting up in the middle of the night. My other thought was that she might need the nourishment from her 11 o'clock feeding.

Thoughts/advice?

Re: Late bedtime question

  • DS has an evening nap from about 7-9.  Then we start our bed time routine at 10pm and my goal is to have him asleep by 11.  He usually wakes between 4-6 and again around 8:30 but will sleep until 10am.  I've tried putting him to bed for the night around 8 or 9, but he just wakes up for the day earlier in the morning. This schedule works best for our family right now, that may change as he gets a little older.

  • We have a similar routine, thought it's more like 10-10:30, than 11.  I've tried a couple of times to put him to bed earlier and it has resulted in terrible nights every time.  I'm interested in hearing what others say - for now I've been working on the "whatever works" philosophy.
  • DS goes down fairly late- usually in his crib by 10:30.  He was getting up at 3am for a quick feeding but this week he has begun STTN!!!! woohoo!  Once he's consistantly sttn from 10:30pm until 7/8am, then I'll begin putting him down closer to 9pm.

Ive read from the AAP that while babies are still newborns, dont try to putting them to bed before 10 or 11, because they will just wake up lol!

My LO was doing the same thing 11-6 or so and NOW at 3 months he sleeps 11- 8 or 9!!!! So your little one is doing good.

  • bed time is between 7-8 he sleeps (most of the time) until about 3-4 and our goal is to try and get him down for another few hours following that....this is a work in progress... GL
  • At 6 weeks my LO sleeps when she wants to and is awake when she wants to be.  So I'm no help!
  • Jamie...I HATE you!!!!

I didn't know Sophie was STTN?!?!?!

That's awesome! I'm still getting up around 3:30- 4:00 Indifferent

Well if it makes you feel any better she probably wont STTN tonight b/c I just put her down 2 hours earlier than I normally do!

  • wow i was just questioning whether or not i am putting dd to bed too late b/c these other posts i read all the moms talk about putting their babies to bed at 7 or 8. dd goes to bed by 10:30 every night and won't wake till 5 or 6 but goes right back to sleep after a change and bottle till about 8-9.
  • Samantha gets a bath at 9 and eats, then is up anywhere form 3-5am we will change and feed and she will sleep again from that feeding  until 9 or 10am
