In the bath, I do a quick swipe on the outside with a washcloth, but I usually don't clean the inside (but he may still be too young for that). If I see a chunk of wax, I'll scrape that out, but don't go any deeper than that.

Me too. Even though I have the "safety swabs" I still feel like I'm going to go too deep because DS is so squirmy.

The outer part, I clean everyday with a washcloth. For inner ear wax (which both girls have issues with), I use a syringe with the safety guard for ears and squirt their ears with water for the wax to fall out. It seems to be working because at the last Dr's visit, the Dr was so happy to see that their ears looked great and she didn't have to use the spoon.

Same here. And for some reason DS has a ton of ear wax.

Same here....My sister is a speech path & insists nothing inside the ear!
wash cloth only. Luckily Tracey does not seem to have any wax issues. I use q-tips on my own ears but I will not let her see me do it.
You q-tippers be careful...my mom was staying with my aunt when her second baby was born and my cousin (maybe 2 at the time) came up to my mom, said "q-TIP!!" and jabbed one in her ear. She was lucky that it didn't damage anything, but it hurt and scared the crap out of her.

ditto to this.
Ditto this for Addie. She usually has some big chunks of stuff in her ears, I get it out with a q tip. She's only had one ear infection.

I usually wash well with the washcloth in the bath, and then gently use a q-tip about once a week for maintenance.
If there's a big chunk, I am guilty of usuing my finger nail, because I usually discover it while she is nursing.
